Game Jam Brings Design Skills to Techies, Tech Skills to Designers
Students who study computing teamed with those in digital design from Jan. 29-31 at Global Game Jam, a hackathon for video game development, which was virtual this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. About three dozen entrants spanning five teams completed the challenge to finish a game in 48 hours, with some teams also including alumni and students from other universities, said Julian Quinn, the lead event organizer, who is a junior information technology major in Ying Wu College of Computing.

NJIT Sweeps EIVA Weekend Series from Sacred Heart, Meissner Registers Match-Best 13 Kills
NJIT swept the EIVA weekend series from Sacred Heart with its second consecutive 3-0 victory behind a match-best 13 kills by sophomore Julian Meissner Friday evening inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. NJIT (2-2, 2-0 EIVA) picked up a 3-0 win on Thursday evening and followed up with a 3-0 victory on Friday in straight sets -- 25-19, 25-13 and 25-16.

Rene White Selected in Third Round of MLS SuperDraft
NJIT senior forward Rene White was selected in the third round of the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. White becomes the second Highlander to be drafted to the MLS in the last four years after Mamadou Guirassy was drafted by the Portland Timbers in the fourth round selection in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

Strategy for Instruction: NJIT Responds to the Pandemic in Forward-Thinking Fashion
Last year, as the COVID-19 pandemic began its inexorable march across the country, NJIT, along with higher education institutions nationwide, faced an unprecedented challenge: how to best move to fully remote instruction, both quickly and safely. Immediately, the university drew upon its technological resources and know-how to provide a virtual learning experience for its more than 11,000 students while completing the spring 2020 semester as scheduled.

ACM Chapter and Computing College Partner for Online Tutoring
NJIT's student ACM chapter is known for its tutoring center, which is moving online this semester in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, matching the new way that university instruction is provided. The program, designed in conjunction with Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC), , matches student volunteers with those who need assistance via WebEx sessions. Tutoring for the spring 2021 semester covers 29 undergraduate and 16 graduate-level courses. There are 28 tutors, 17 of which are volunteers from Albert Dorman Honors College who are fulfilling their service requirements.
