NJIT senior forward Rene White was selected in the third round of the 2021 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake.
White becomes the second Highlander to be drafted to the MLS in the last four years after Mamadou Guirassy was drafted by the Portland Timbers in the fourth round selection in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
"We are so proud of Rene, a product of Bloomfield, N.J. to be drafted by Real Salt Lake of the MLS," said head coach Fernando Barboto. "Rene is the second forward from our program to be drafted in four years and it affirms the quality and caliber of our program."
The 2019 ASUN Men's Soccer Player of the Year, led NJIT to its first NCAA Tournament appearance after claiming the ASUN Championship title on November 16, 2019.
White, who was named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American second-team and All-East Region first-team, scored 17 goals which ranked fourth nationally and tops the Highlanders record books as the career leader in goals (34) and points (74).
A first-team All-Atlantic Region, White scored his second career hat trick in the Highlanders 5-0 shutout victory over Jacksonville to clinch the ASUN Conference regular season title - the first-ever ASUN title for an NJIT team at the Division I level.
The 6-foot striker scored a pair of goals in four matches, including a game-winner in overtime in NJIT's 1-0 victory at VCU, for the program's first all-time win over the Rams.
