They were newly arrived from China for a semester-long, customized, professional development program at NJIT, and for most of them the journey marked their first time coming to the United States. While some of the 10 employees from the China Triumph International Engineering Company, Ltd. (CTIEC) were still recovering from jet lag, all were happy to be settling in at the university, as evidenced during an official welcome luncheon held Feb. 14.

Since 1987, our nation has celebrated Women’s History Month each March, taking time to recognize the impact of women on the betterment of our society and our world. Here, on the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) campus, we mark this month with a number of programs designed to highlight the contributions of women at our university, in professional fields and throughout society at large. 

ROI-NJ, a publication that reports on New Jersey economic news, released its “ROI Influencers Power List” for 2018. Featured on the list are Joel S. Bloom, NJIT’s president; Donald Sebastian, president of New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT Corporation; and Tom Gregorio, NJII’s senior executive director, Healthcare Delivery Systems iLab.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security, a trade association of home security professionals that advocates for safe communities and home safety, ranks NJIT among the Top 100 Safest College Campuses in America. The university joins five other Garden State institutions of higher education in receiving this honor.

The Rutgers-Newark/NJIT Theatre and Arts Technology program presents “In the Heights”, a Tony Award- winning musical with lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara Alegria Hudes and directed by Michael Kerley, associate director of the theatre program.

The New Jersey Innovation Institute, an NJIT corporation, is collaborating with Celgene Corporation, a global biopharmaceutical company, to train its workforce in the manufacture of a new generation of cell therapy technologies to be produced in Celgene’s facilities in Warren and Summit, NJ.

Governor Phil Murphy visited NJIT’s campus today to announce three new appointments to his cabinet. “What a treat to be back at NJIT. This is where, about 18 months ago, I laid out our vision for a stronger and fairer economy that would lift every New Jerseyan,” Murphy said.

Michael Chiappa ’18, a graduate architecture student in the College of Architecture and Design, has been elected to serve as northeast quad director on the 2018-2019 National Board of the American Institute of Architecture Students, becoming the first student from NJIT to do so in the organization’s 62-year history.

With one game remaining in the 2017-18 regular season, the NJIT men's basketball team has tons riding on its finale at USC Upstate (7-23, 2-11) on Thursday night in Spartanburg, S.C. One thing is certain regardless of the outcome at the Hodge Center: The Highlanders (13-15, 6-7) will be playing either Jacksonville University (13-17, 7-6) or University of North Florida (13-17, 7-6) in the Quarterfinals.
