NJIT Rises, Ranks in Top 15 Percent "Best Institution" Nationwide by College Factual
College Factual, a leading source of higher education analytics and insights, has ranked NJIT in the top 15 percent nationwide in the overall “Best Institution” category for 2019, a 61-place jump compared to 2018 rankings. NJIT is now ranked 251 out of a 1,779 institutions nationwide, and 5 out of 33 in N.J., a jump of three positions in the state. The “Best Institution” category looks at several specific factors to generate their score, including: student body caliber, educational resources, degree completion and post-graduation earnings.

NJIT Jumps to Number 2 on College Factual's List of Best Civil Engineering Programs Nationwide
The Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) program at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) now ranks second in the nation, according to College Factual, an outcomes-based data analytics and research company. NJIT jumped six places from last year, landing behind Georgia Tech (1) and ahead of MIT (3), on the list of the 206 programs evaluated. The university's CEE program ranked in the top 20 in numerous areas, including education for veterans, popularity and graduates’ earnings, among others.

NJIT Faculty Expert Rima Taher on 'Building Design for Wind Forces'
The faculty at the College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) continues to foster insightful discussion and riveting commentary in and out of the classroom. Senior University Lecturer Rima Taher’s textbook "Building Design for Wind Forces,” which was published by McGraw Hill Education, explores the oft-overlooked yet critically important subject of designing and constructing structures that can withstand wind forces and better resist extreme wind events, such as hurricanes and tornadoes.

NJIT Center for Pre-College Programs to Host Hands-On Workshop on Oct. 17
The Center for Pre-College Programs at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will be hosting a free workshop for middle and high school teachers and STEM curriculum specialists on Wednesday, Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m in the NJIT Makerspace. The workshop will include teaching 3D engineering principles applied to a rotational equilibrium problem and classroom applications of 3D printing and laser cutting. The workshop includes continental breakfast and lunch, and easy on-campus parking is available.

President Bloom Visits 50+ Alumni at Stryker Corporation
More than 50 NJIT alumni hosted President Bloom at Stryker headquarters in Mahwah, N.J. on Sept. 11. The event marked the fifth time Stryker engaged with NJIT this year. Previous engagements included a Stryker campus tour and basketball game, a lecture at Stryker headquarters by Dr. Treena Arinzeh, biomedical professor, and visits from students in the pre-college program and Biomedical Engineering Club.

Convocation Welcomes Class of 2022, Recognizes Faculty
"I had to acknowledge that this was the defining chapter in my life and I had to write that chapter," said Muhammad Elgammal P.E., PMP, who was the keynote speaker at University Convocation September 12, 2018. In his address, Elgammal recalled his experience as a first-year civil engineering student and provided three promises to the largest-ever freshman class at NJIT. “The first promise: There will be failure. Failure is only a lesson in growth. The second promise: Nothing worth having is going to come easy. Through patience, you will reap rewards.

Men's Volleyball Alvaro Gimeno Competes at 2018 CEV U20 Volleyball European Championships
NJIT men's volleyball rising sophomore Alvaro Gimeno competed with the U20 Spain National Team at the 2018 CEV U20 Volleyball European Championships. Alvaro, the reigning Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Newcomer of the Year, joined the U20 Spain National Team at the end of May. Spain recorded a second-place finish after the first two qualifying rounds. "It was an amazing experience at the 2018 CEV U20 Volleyball European Championships, playing against some of the best players in the world and some of NCAA's best athletes," Gimeno commented.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has risen 34 spots — third most in the nation — in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, which identify the top colleges in the nation offering the best education for students.

NJIT Offers New Jersey's First Undergraduate Program in Forensic Science
Recently, NJIT announced that this fall it will begin offering New Jersey’s first Bachelor of Science program in forensic science. This first-of-its-kind degree program will fulfill a critically important and unmet need for New Jersey’s students and its forensic science community. The 120-credit degree will represent the only undergraduate program in the New York metropolitan region designed from its outset to meet the rigorous standards set by the leading accrediting body in this important field, the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC).

Advancing After Academy: Yet Another Pre-College Success Story
Before Jonathan Lewis arrived at NJIT to study biomedical engineering, he had already earned five college credits — two after completing the university’s Management 190 course and three after finishing its Fundamentals of Engineering and Design 101. He was then a student at St. Benedict’s Prep, participating in the Center for Pre-College Programs’ (CPCP) Academy College Courses for High School Students.

Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight; Fiona Wright Nets Pair of Goals
Freshman Fiona Wright scored a pair of goals and sophomore Katrina Nguyen-DeMary collected two assists in NJIT's 4-1 victory over Fairfield Sunday afternoon on the campus of Kean University East Campus Facility. White Scores Lone Goal in NJIT's 1-0 Win Over Sacred Heart; Pujades Notches Shutout
Redshirt sophomore Rene White scored the lone goal of the match and goalkeeper Victor Pujades notched his first shutout of the season in NJIT's 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart in the season opener for both teams at Kean University East Campus Facility Friday evening. 37 College of Architecture and Design Students Exhibit Work at SIGGRAPH 2018
Thirty-seven students from the College of Architecture and Design had their work shown in the double-curated Faculty Submitted Student Work Exhibit at SIGGRAPH 2018, an annual conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques convened by the Association of Computing Machinery, in Vancouver, Aug. 12 -16.
