A Spring Afternoon with Sophia and Friends
The first Friday afternoon of Spring 2018 brings an exciting concert to campus — acclaimed pianist Sophia Agranovich will be joined by two of her exceptional students, Mohammed Boubendir and Robert Argasinski. David Dubal, internationally known pianist, author, broadcaster and painter will introduce musical selections from composers such as Beethoven, Chopin and Liszt. The event is the first in the 2018-2019 Rauch Family Foundation Charitable Trust Concert Series at NJIT.

Martin Tuchman School of Management: A Force for Salesforce
For the past year and a half, Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM) has been collaborating with Salesforce, a widely used customer relationship management (CRM) and cloud-computing platform. It’s a partnership that has enabled NJIT students to not only become trained in the platform — adding value to what they can bring to potential employers — but also directly connect with Salesforce professionals through various informational and interactive networking events.

“One of the things that I’m pretty passionate about is women being competitive and not having negative connotations around being competitive… I think that sometimes women don’t embrace that enough,” said Erika Taugher ’08, ’09, a star soccer alumna who earned a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and a master’s in international business.

Men's and Women's Tennis Open ASUN Action with Wins Over USC Upstate
NJIT men's and women's tennis won their opening ASUN matches with wins over USC Upstate at the Naimoli Tennis Center on Saturday. "Great start to our conference schedule", said men's head coach Ira Miller about the 6-1 victory. "Doubles was tight but we pulled out the point and rode the momentum into some of our best singles play of the year." Women's tennis 5-2 victory means they have won four-out-of-five matches, moving to 1-0 in the ASUN and 8-6 overall. The eight wins ties the Highlanders win total accomplished in 2016-17.

Computer Technology Major Lands a Job at CISCO
This July, soon-to-be NJIT graduate Michael Bouzaglo will be happily settled in Raleigh, N.C., as an associate systems engineer (SE) for CISCO, a leader in the information technology (IT) and networking industry. He will receive training through the CISCO Sales Associate Program (CSAP) for his new role — a hard-earned dream position for the computer technology major, who calls himself “a geek at heart.”

Alvaro Gimeno and Luca Berger were named Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the EIVA Conference announced Monday afternoon. Gimeno, the Highlanders newcomer, notches his first EIVA Offensive Player of the Week while Berger, a sophomore transfer, records his first EIVA Defensive Player of the Week award of the year. The NJIT-Rutgers Theatre Program, co-sponsored by the Jim Wise Archive for Music Endowment and the Albert Dorman Honors College, presents their annual jazz concert featuring faculty and guest professionals. Featuring: Dave Rimelis, conductor of the jazz ensemble at NJIT through the Music Initiative; Dr. David Rothenberg, professor in Science, Technology, and Society at NJIT; Dr. Lewis Porter, Rutgers University-Newark Director of Graduate Program for Jazz Studies; and guest performers Louis Grassi on drums and Ken Filiano on bass.

NJIT to Host Professional Communication and Interviewing Seminar for Engineers
Newark College of Engineering (NCE) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will host a professional seminar on March 28 featuring industry speakers, a panel discussion and a networking session. Keynoting the seminar is Greg Sauter. Sauter has 30 years in the engineering industry and is the founder of Smart City Works, the world’s first business actuator—a new type of business accelerator that is tailored to each infrastructure startup.

He's Chasing Genius: Peter Ma '07
Peter Ma is co-founder of Doctor Hazel, an AI that detects skin cancer in real time. He’s part of the Intel Software Innovator program, which supports innovative, independent developers who display an ability to create and demonstrate forward-looking projects. A software developer for more than 12 years, Ma has previously been involved in five different startups and won more than 100 hackathons in the past. He received a B.S in computer engineering in 2007.

The New Jersey Innovation Institute, (NJII) an NJIT Corporation, has announced that its Cell and Gene Therapy Development Center has launched a training program to upgrade the knowledge and skills of biopharmaceutical professionals in the processing of new, breakthrough classes of biologic therapies.

Power Up: Computing Student Publishes Hand-Drawn Game on Google Play
Prior to taking the game modification development course taught by University Lecturer D.J. Kehoe last spring, computer science major Angela Vitaletti ’18 had never developed or programmed a videogame before. “I would always bite off more than I could chew, and never finish,” said Vitaletti, who is from Middlesex and transferred to NJIT from Northampton Community College in Pennsylvania. “I took game mod as a way to motivate myself because it has real deadlines and projects that D.J. helps make achievable.”

NJIT to Make a Splash With Community Outreach Event
Hundreds of high school students from Newark and around the state will visit New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) March 24 for NJIT Splash, a one-day enrichment program taught by NJIT students. The program, which debuted at NJIT last year and continues as an annual event, will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to students in grades nine through 12.
