NJIT's Senjuti Basu Roy, assistant professor of computer science, received a prestigious National Science Foundation award announced this month for her research addressing inefficiencies of deploying tasks in crowdsourced labor services.

UniversityHQ, “an independent source of information for students pursuing higher education options and/or advancement in their career field,” has ranked NJIT among the country’s Top 55 colleges for return on investment (ROI). The university placed 26th out of 3,300 schools nationwide and joins only two other New Jersey higher education institutions in the listing.

Even in the social distancing era, the show must go on for the art world. That includes the NJIT/Rutgers-Newark theatre arts community, which is soon returning to its audiences with a string of all-new virtual performances exploring art, click-based technology and social connections during physical isolation.

NJIT senior Shyquan Gibbs has been selected to the 2020 ASUN Conference Winter Winners for Life team the league office announced Thursday. The team is comprised of one student-athlete from each of the nine institutions and honors those who display excellence on and off the playing surface.

Volunteerism continues to be part of the foundation of NJIT. In 2019 alone, the university’s students contributed more than 67,000 hours of community service and gave their time to over 300 community-based organizations.

NJIT's student newspaper, The Vector, won third place for general excellence in the 2019-2020 edition of the New Jersey Press Association collegiate contest. It was the staff's first time entering the competition. The association praised the students' range of story ideas and graphics layout. Some of the paper's significant articles this year covered campus sustainability, studio culture among architecture majors, a graduate student protest and the lead in the city of Newark's drinking water.

Members of NJIT’s Center for Building Knowledge (CBK) have produced training material for how to use the first standardized tool for evaluating and scoring the energy efficiency of buildings. Approximately 129 million households and more than 4.7 million commercial buildings account for close to 40% of total U.S. energy use, consuming more energy than the transportation or industry sectors, according to the U.S.

Zach Cooks, a junior captain on the NJIT men's basketball team, earned another accolade on Tuesday, securing Third Team honors from the Metropolitan Writers Basketball Association (MBWA).

A pair of Highlanders, outside hitter Alvaro Gimeno and middle blocker Luca Berger were named to the 2020 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) men's Division I-II All-America team.
