New Jersey Institute of Technology ranks in the top quarter of U.S. universities and colleges in the The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings for 2021.
Numerically, NJIT is #193 out of 797 schools — up 52 slots from 2020 and 135 slots from 2019. In the two previous rankings, NJIT placed in the top third. Also, NJIT is now the second most highly ranked public university in New Jersey among schools offering degrees in several disciplines, including business, engineering, architecture and history.
“NJIT has steadily climbed in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education U.S. rankings every year since its inaugural year,” said Fadi P. Deek, NJIT provost and senior executive vice president. “NJIT’s improved standing is a testament to the continued investments we are making in our academic programs and faculty, and the positive feedback provided by our students.”
The overall rankings are based on performance metrics in four categories: resources, engagement, outcomes and environment.
In environment, which assesses diversity among faculty and students, student inclusion and the ratio of international students, NJIT ranks #66 nationally — up two slots from 2020.
In addition, the university ranks #145 in outcomes, which measures graduate salary, graduation rate, debt after graduation and reputation. That ranking rose 56 slots from 2020.
Data for the The Wall Street Journal/Times High Education College Rankings comes from the U.S. government (Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid), Bureau of Economic Analysis, Elsevier bibliometric dataset and student and academic surveys conducted by Times Higher Education.
