NJIT Jumps 83 Spots in Ranking by Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has improved its standing among U.S. universities and colleges by 83 spots, according to The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education (THE) College Rankings for 2020. NJIT nearly doubled its improvement compared to last year, which saw a 43 spot gain for 2019.
THE’s latest rankings of more than 800 U.S. colleges and universities have NJIT ranked #245 in the country. NJIT saw improved performance in two key areas of the ranking’s metrics: outcomes and engagement. Outcomes include graduation rate, reputation, graduate salary and debt after graduation. NJIT has seen improvements in these areas, and was recently ranked in the top 2% nationally in the Payscale College Salary Report, which measures mid-career salary. Engagement accounts for student engagement, student recommendation, student/teacher interaction and the number of accredited programs. NJIT jumped 91 and 180 spots for outcomes and engagement, respectively.
Additionally, NJIT has a top 70 position nationally for the environment metric of the ranking, which looks at various diversity metrics, such as international student ratio, ethnic and racial diversity, faculty diversity and student inclusion.
Data for THE’s 2020 rankings comes from the U.S. government Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid (FSA), the College Scorecard, the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the THE U.S. Student Survey, the THE Academic Survey, and the Elsevier bibliometric dataset.
