The Department of Public Safety at NJIT has been ranked sixth nationwide for its campus safety initiatives. The recognition comes from Safe Campus, an independent organization that strives to improve the overall safety and security of U.S. college and university students, and annually rates campuses across the country for their safety measures. 2020 marks the third consecutive year that NJIT placed among the Top 25 of eligible U.S.-accredited higher-education institutions — 4,298 this time around.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago has once again lauded William V. Rapp, the Henry J. Leir Professor of International Trade and Business and director of the Leir Center for Financial Bubble Research at NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management, for his economic forecasting acumen.

U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 rankings for “Best Online Programs” are out, and NJIT realized gains in four graduate-study areas: business, information technology (IT), engineering and MBA. The rankings are the result of extensive assessments over the past year of more than 1,600 online degree programs nationwide, the highest number evaluated to date.

A new two-year agreement between Ocean County College and New Jersey Institute of Technology allows OCC graduates to transfer directly into NJIT colleges.

The agreement went into effect on October 4, 2019 and covers NJIT's College of Science and Liberal Arts; Newark College of Engineering; Martin Tuchman School of Management; and Ying Wu College of Computing.

David Bader, distinguished professor of computer science, is the director of NJIT’s new Institute for Data Science. His interests lie at the intersection of data science and high-performance computing, with applications in cybersecurity, massive-scale analytics and computational genomics. Dr. Bader works closely with researchers in academia, industry and government to develop the next generation of computing capabilities and has advised the White House on the National Strategic Computing Initiative.

Initiating, supporting and maintaining a high number of startup ventures remains the chief objective of innovation-ecosystem stakeholders: government policymakers, administrators of technology parks and small business incubators, and the entrepreneurs operating in such venues. The social capital (or interconnecting relationships with universities, industry and government organizations) provided by this world, along with strategies that help to remove barriers, promote networking and encourage relevant learning, would seem to be valuable contributors to startup growth and survival.
