NJIT Online Programs Among the Best, Says U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 rankings for “Best Online Programs” are out, and NJIT realized gains in four graduate-study areas: business, information technology (IT), engineering and MBA. The rankings are the result of extensive assessments over the past year of more than 1,600 online degree programs nationwide, the highest number evaluated to date.
The university rose to No. 82 out of 174 online Master of Business programs and to No. 34 out of 58 online Master of IT programs. It also moved up among online Master of Engineering programs to No. 53 out of 94, offering distance-learning options in civil, electrical and industrial engineering as well as engineering management, transportation, and power and energy systems.
NJIT’s online MBA program placed No. 112 out of 321, with the total number of ranked schools in this category increasing by nearly 40. Graduates of the program have served as business analysts, financial managers and marketing managers and worked at such renowned companies as Google, Goldman Sachs Group and Apple.
“Martin Tuchman School of Management at NJIT is heavily investing in its online graduate programs, where business education is delivered in a format that most students find convenient, challenging and accessible,” said Oya Tukel, dean of the school. “The demand for online programs will continue to grow as more and more employers embrace online education, and the Tuchman School of Management will be at the forefront of delivering reputable online programs.”
Online learning has indeed become integral to higher education, particularly on the graduate level. NJIT offers 15 online master’s degree programs in an array of disciplines, along with 19 online graduate certificate programs in emerging fields that can be applied toward a related master’s degree.
For its annual rankings of online graduate programs, U.S. News & World Report considers a variety of factors — from student engagement, admissions selectivity and peer reputation, to faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology.
“NJIT’s improved rankings unequivocally demonstrate the university’s growing reputation among peer institutions and potential employers of our graduates. Our online programs enroll high-quality graduate students, while our online course instructors have esteemed backgrounds and focus on student engagement throughout the semester,” noted Sotirios G. Ziavras, vice provost for graduate studies and dean of the graduate faculty at NJIT. “As a result, the students of NJIT’s online programs receive a world-class education in very competitive STEM disciplines of importance to our nation, and can go on to pursue very rewarding careers.”
