U.S. News & World Report Ranks NJIT Online Programs, Two in the Top 50 Nationally

Two of New Jersey Institute of Technology’s online graduate programs placed among the top 50 in this year's U.S. News & World Report rankings of American universities, with another breaking into the top 100.

NJIT was ranked No. 29 for its information technology programs, a two place jump from last year; and No. 47 for engineering, a 16-place rise. In addition, NJIT’s online master’s business program was ranked No. 95, and the online MBA was No. 132.

All ranked programs saw improved scores over last year, according to the publication.

"NJIT’s online graduate programs consistently rank among the country’s best," said Sotirios Ziavras, vice provost for graduate studies. "Students in these programs strive for quality education that is made available to them by NJIT’s first-class instructors that have the right expertise to teach advanced graduate courses. The value of graduate education should not be underestimated when it comes to career advancement in emerging STEM disciplines and beyond."

While more colleges and universities than ever before began offering distance learning options in response to COVID-19, NJIT has pioneered fully online and partial, or hybrid, online degree programs as part of the university’s vision of a global campus. NJIT was recognized for its technological innovations and digital transformation initiatives.

Ying Wu College of Computing welcomed a record-breaking number of students to its college in the fall, with Dean Craig Gotsman noting the importance of highly-trained computing professionals.

“Software and information systems virtually shape the way people across the globe work and play on a daily basis,” said Gotsman. “As companies compete fiercely to attract top tech talent, we are proud to be contributing in such a significant way to the talent pipeline.”

YWCC has broadened its offerings by anticipating market needs and focusing on emerging trends, like creating the Center for Artificial Intelligence. YWCC is following up the research center with a master's in AI, and has further expanded its graduate certificate programs with an AI certification.

NJIT’s engineering graduate offerings have been nationally ranked since 2003, according to U.S. News and World Report, and Newark College of Engineering has been named a top 100 engineering graduate school for seven straight years. NJIT’s online programs offer flexible learning opportunities and include degrees in civil engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, engineering management, power and energy systems and transportation.

"Feedback from students in our online curricula told us that the availability of online offerings made a significant difference for them,” said Newark College of Engineering Dean Moshe Kam. “The ability to participate in classes without commuting to campus, the ability to review lectures and demonstrations anytime, and the provisions to communicate with the instructor offline, allowed these students to continue their studies and pursue future careers."

NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management continues to expand both on and offline, and enrollment to the school has reflected that growth, seeing a 25% rise over the past three years and big developments at the college. The non-MBA option improved its score in the rankings and features a diverse field of concentrations that include FinTech, business analytics and global project management. Earlier, the school’s online MBA program was lauded as one of the best in the nation, according to Fortune.

"Martin Tuchman School of Management has been developing and delivering online programs for many years and we consider our online education expertise as one of our strengths,” Dean Oya Tukel said. “The key to our success is our relentless effort to integrate technology and experience into our curriculum, pushing the boundaries of higher education by preparing students for more technology-driven economies,” Tukel added.
