Two design and engineering innovators — Kim Vierheilig and Wei Wang — have been elected to the National Academy of Construction (NAC) Class of 2025, a prestigious honor recognizing individuals who have made significant, lasting contributions to the construction industry. Their election reflects the significant professional achievements of NJIT alumni and advisory leaders who continue to contribute to the advancement of the construction industry.

Alessandro Negri’s road to business came through volleyball.

When he arrived at New Jersey Institute of Technology in January 2022, he planned to major in biology. But two teammates on the volleyball team, Joseph Kennedy and Martin de Chavarria, shared their textbooks on finance and economics and Negri was intrigued.

New Jersey Institute of Technology served up a full day of fanfare as its advanced degree graduates walked across the stage in the Bloom Wellness and Events Center in three commencement ceremonies. The 2025 master’s and doctoral class exemplifies the institution’s commitment to research and scholarship across a diverse range of disciplines.

Time management and discipline were key to Arina Babkova’s success as a graduate student at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Why? Because she completed her master’s in management at NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management in two semesters while playing Division I tennis at a high level in the spring and fall. Her mentors were impressed.

Cedric Alam, a senior business major concentrating in finance, will start his career this summer in the financial management analysis program at Bank of America’s headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A passion for business grew for Pablo Perez Ramos at New Jersey Institute of Technology and spurred him to now pursue a master’s in finance at the University of Florida.

His choice of graduate school also reveals his love for tennis, as UF won a national team championship in 2021 when 13th ranked pro Ben Shelton played there. You see, Perez Ramos, who tallied an impressive 73-21 record in singles matches as a Highlander, will continue to compete as a Gator.

NJIT’s Dana Knox Research Showcase returned in 2025 to once again highlight the innovative and impactful work of students across disciplines. The event celebrated undergraduate and graduate researchers tackling real-world challenges with creative, technical solutions.

Now in its 20th year, the showcase was also its largest — over 150 presentations by 200+ students spanned all six of NJIT’s colleges.

ROI-NJ recognized deans, administrators, board members, alumni and a director from New Jersey Institute of Technology as the most influential women in business for 2025.

Four of the Highlanders made the top 50 list: Trustee Elisa Charters; Michele Siekerka and Debbie Hart, who both serve on the Board of Directors of NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute; and Becky Button, who serves on the Advisory Board of NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design.
