New Jersey Institute of Technology jumped 114 places to No. 75 on Forbes’ 2022 list of America’s Top Colleges. 

The national ranking is based primarily on return on investment and outcomes for students. “Schools placed well if their students graduated on time, secured high salaries and low debt and went on to have successful careers,” Forbes explained. 

Vishva Rana ‘23, a Goldwater Scholar, has always been interested in addressing sustainable issues. The mechanical engineering major, minoring in innovation and entrepreneurship, has been working on a real-time air quality monitoring system and hopes to see it implemented in Newark’s Ironbound.

NJIT student Akhyurna Swain has a plan to save $15 million per year in the maintenance and operational costs of New Jersey's offshore wind turbines.

Swain, studying for her Ph.D. in electrical engineering, determined that non-intrusive monitoring technology controlled by magnets can be paired with machine learning software to realize the impressive cost savings for an 1,100-megawatt project which will begin construction in 2024.

New Jersey Institute of Technology has again been named a top college according to The Princeton Review in its 31st edition of its college guide, "The Best 388 Colleges," a designation earned by only about 14% of America’s four-year colleges. 

After concluding their eight-week summer program, NJIT students presented their startups, giving them an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship and business creation.

The Highlander Foundry program is a summer startup incubator that helps NJIT students and alumni grow with the same techniques and strategies that launched many of the top startups today.

Also, in an industry not known for gender balance, women comprise nearly a third of the staff and have earned 62% of the promotions in the past three years.

John Vito d’Antonio-Bertagnolli, who holds both a bachelor’s and master’s in biomedical engineering from NJIT, where he was an Albert Dorman Honors College Scholar, leads OculoMotor Technologies (OMT), a vision therapy company that launched in 2018.

NJIT's electrical and computer engineering department hosted 65 girls representing 40 high schools in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania last week, teaching the students about opportunities in technical fields where females are historically overlooked.

Associate professor at NJIT’s School of Applied Engineering and Technology, Laramie Potts, works to ensure his students in the Surveying Engineering Technology program have the opportunity to experience the technological instruments the career has to offer. With the creation of a home-brew mobile autonomous surveyor vehicle, Potts wants to make the students’ experience more complete. 

NJIT students have found excellent work in co-ops and internships this summer. It is a great way to gain real-world experience in their field of study, and to network with professionals in their chosen field. And, of course, the added benefit of earning money to help pay for tuition and other expenses.
