NJIT Featured in The Princeton Review's 'Best 388 Colleges' Guide for 2023
At NJIT, students are “learning on an Ivy League level,” getting “practical career-focused education” at “a fairly affordable price.” - The Princeton Review
New Jersey Institute of Technology has again been named a top college according to The Princeton Review in its 31st edition of its college guide, "The Best 388 Colleges," a designation earned by only about 14% of America’s four-year colleges.
In addition to the “Best 388,” NJIT has received honors as a top college in the Northeast region and a Best Value college. NJIT also appears on the Top 50 College for Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Studies list, the Top 50 College for Undergraduate Game Design list and is ranked No.11 for Best Career Placement among public schools.
The Princeton Review chooses the colleges for its publication based on data it collects annually from more than 2,000 schools it monitors. It also considers data gathered from surveys — more than 150,000 — of college students who rate and report on various aspects of their campus and community experiences for this project.
“NJIT’s recognition by The Princeton Review as one of the country’s finest, and highest value, institutions of higher education is well earned, as we are a catalyst for student opportunity and success,” said NJIT President Teik C. Lim. “We are thankful to the NJIT students surveyed for providing insight about their campus experiences and for their recognition of the work done by our faculty, staff and administrators on their behalf.”
Our graduates have the entrepreneurial skills required to succeed in startups and corporations.
In other rankings previously provided by The Princeton Review, NJIT came in at No. 34 nationwide in the Top 50 College for Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Studies, and No. 1 in New Jersey. NJIT’s placement as the top school for STEM entrepreneurship reflects the success of an innovation mindset at the university.
“As New Jersey’s only public polytechnic university, and as an R1 institution, NJIT is uniquely qualified to develop technological innovation with societal significance and market potential,” remarked Cesar Bandera, associate professor of entrepreneurship at NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management. “This distinction is earned through NJIT’s focused development of entrepreneurship education programs and investment in student and community entrepreneurs. Our graduates have the entrepreneurial skills required to succeed in startups and corporations — they make a positive impact.”
NJIT’s entrepreneurial ecosystem features: degree programs, like its B.S. in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, as well as an MBA concentration and Ph.D. courses in innovation and entrepreneurship; Venturelink@ NJIT, NJ’s largest startup incubator with programs supporting student engagement; NJIT’s Venture Fund, which directly funds startups; and is a member of the National Science Foundation I-Corps Northeast Hub working to translate research discoveries into viable products and services.
NJIT is ranked among the top 2% of universities for mid-career earnings
The Princeton Review also lauded NJIT earlier in 2022 as one of the Best Value Colleges coming in nationally at No. 33. These colleges “offer outstanding academics and excellent career services.” At only 1.2% of the nation's four-year colleges, the listed institutions demonstrate strong academic programs and affordability, and offer strong opportunities for career prospects after graduation.
NJIT’s designation in The Princeton Review’s Best Value list reinforces NJIT’s standing as a high value school with excellent return on investment. NJIT was ranked: No. 1 by Forbes for economic mobility; No. 1 public school in New Jersey for net-price value 10 years post graduation by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce; No. 14 “Best College” by Money; and top 2% for alumni mid-career earnings by Payscale.
Sustainability is a key component of the university’s strategic plan.
NJIT earned a score of 90/99 for its Green Rating, which provides a comprehensive measure of a school's performance as an environmentally aware and prepared institution — more than a 45% increase over the past five years.
Recent NJIT sustainability initiatives include securing a renewable energy agreement to power NJIT, hiring the school’s first assistant director of sustainability, signing Second Nature’s pledge to pursue a carbon neutral campus and the formation of a university committee that works across all campus departments. NJIT is ranked No. 96 among institutions globally in the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings that recognize institutions working to address global issues highlighted by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Sustainability is a key component of the university’s strategic plan — it is an institutional learning goal to ensure that our students graduate as global citizens,” said Andrew Christ, senior vice president for real estate development and capital operations. “We are working diligently on weaving sustainability in our teaching and research to execute environmentally friendly programs.”
