NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering brought together alumni, students, faculty, staff and industry partners for its 28th Annual Salute to Engineering Excellence, an evening that celebrated the people and partnerships helping shape the college’s future.
Held April 16 at Stone House at Stirling Ridge, the annual event highlighted achievement across the NCE community. Proceeds from the night will support experiential learning and NCE competitive student teams and organizations.
Dana Knox Research Showcase Highlights Student Research With Real-World Reach
NJIT’s Dana Knox Research Showcase filled the Bloom Wellness and Events Center with student research spanning science, engineering, computing, management and the humanities. Suhib AlHendi - ECE PhD Student of the Month - April 2026
Suhib Al-Hindi is a PhD researcher in high-performance computing at NJIT, under the supervision of Prof. Qing Liu. His research sits at the intersection of HPC and distributed systems, with a focus on data movement, system efficiency, and quality of service. He studies how large-scale systems read, write, and move data. His work includes data reduction and reconstruction methods that improve efficiency while preserving the data quality the user needs.

Akhila Kandivalasa is a PhD student in the ECE department working on observability for dynamic state estimation in power systems. She grew up near a thermal power station and was always fascinated how those "giant machines" operated. During her undergraduate studies, power systems remained one of her favorites.
Sohom Sen - ECE PhD Student of the Month - February 2026
Sohom Sen is a PhD student from India who discovered the passion for research during a summer internship at NJIT under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Tao Han and Dr. Durga Misra. That experience clarified that academia and research aligned better with his goals than the corporate path. He was fortunate to receive an offer to pursue his PhD under Dr. Han, and is now based in the UNICS Lab, FMH 414.
