Veterans Day
Dear Highlanders,
I write today to thank NJIT’s veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces for their service to our nation, and to ask the entire NJIT campus community to join me in recognizing their service and sacrifice.
Thousands of our graduates and hundreds of our students, as well as many faculty and staff, have served in the military throughout the years. NJIT is a university that has tremendous appreciation for those in the Armed Forces, as well as deep and meaningful connections to the United States military. We have been home to Air Force ROTC Detachment 490 since 1949. That unit has been training and commissioning new leaders as 2nd Lieutenants for the United States Air Force for more than 70 years.
NJIT also has an extensive history of partnership with the military through research and technological innovation related to issues of national defense, security, resource management/resiliency, and servicemember safety and wellness. We have worked with the U.S. Department of Defense, the Picatinny Arsenal, the McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Joint Base, as well as major defense contractors that include Lockheed Martin, Exelis Electronic Systems, BAE Systems, and L-3 Communications Systems, among others. And NJIT’s Institute for Brain and Neuroscience Research is delivering life-enhancing therapies to the aging, disrupting the chemical pathways of addiction, and mitigating the effects of neurological diseases and traumatic brain injuries, such as those frequently suffered by soldiers.
We also have been recognized among the top colleges and universities nationwide for veteran friendliness. So, it is with deep respect and admiration that we thank our veterans for their service to our nation and for the many sacrifices they and their loved ones have made for all of us. Happy Veterans Day, and thank you!
Sincerely,
Teik C. Lim
NJIT President
