US News and World Report Ranks NJIT Online Programs Top 100 Nationally, Top 3 Statewide
Three of NJIT's online graduate programs placed among the top 100 in this year's U.S. News & World Report rankings of American universities, and in the top three for New Jersey institutions.
More colleges and universities than ever before began offering distance learning options in response to COVID-19. However, NJIT has long offered both fully online and partial, or hybrid, online degree programs as part of the university’s vision of a global campus. NJIT was recognized in 2021 for its technological innovations and digital transformation initiatives.
The publication ranked Highlander online master's degrees 31st-best for information technology, 63rd for engineering, and 87th for business. In addition, NJIT’s online MBA ranked 137 nationally.
"NJIT’s online graduate programs continue to rank among the country’s best in an increasingly competitive environment," said Sotirios Ziavras, vice provost for graduate studies. "Our online programs enroll graduate students seeking quality education made available to them by a reputable university having dedicated instructors with the right expertise. The value of graduate degrees cannot be underestimated when it comes to career advancement in emerging fields of study."
Yu Wu College of Computing welcomed a record-breaking number of students to its college in the fall, with Dean Craig Gotsman noting the importance of highly-trained computing professionals, especially in light of COVID.
“Software and information systems virtually shape the way people across the globe work and play on a daily basis,” said Gotsman. “As companies compete fiercely to attract top tech talent, we are proud to be contributing in such a significant way to the talent pipeline.”
YWCC has broadened its offerings by anticipating market needs and focusing on emerging trends, including recently launching the Center for Artificial Intelligence, expanding its graduate certification programs that can transfer seamlessly into a master’s degree program and creating a Department of Data Science.
NJIT’s engineering graduate offerings have been nationally ranked for 18 straight years, according to U.S. News and World Report, and Newark College of Engineering has been named a top 100 engineering graduate school for six straight years. NJIT’s online programs offer flexible learning opportunities and include degrees in civil engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, engineering management, power and energy systems, and transportation.
"Feedback from students in our online curricula told us that the availability of online offerings made a significant difference for them,” said Newark College of Engineering Dean Moshe Kam. “The ability to participate in classes without commuting to campus, the ability to review lectures and demonstrations anytime, and the provisions to communicate with the instructor offline, allowed these students to continue their studies and pursue future careers."
NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management continues to expand both on and offline, and applications to the school have reflected that growth, seeing a 21% rise from last year. The non-MBA option saw a noticeable rankings increase, up four spots from 2021 despite an 11% increase in schools ranked, and features a diverse field of concentrations that include FinTech, business analytics, global project management, and web systems and media. Earlier, the school’s online MBA program was lauded as a top 100 program by Fortune Education.
"Martin Tuchman School of Management has been developing and delivering online programs for many years and we consider our online education expertise as one of our strengths,” Dean Oya Tukel said. “The key to our success is our relentless effort to integrate technology and experience into our curriculum, pushing the boundaries of higher education by preparing students for more technology-driven economies,” Tukel added.
