NJIT's Online M.S. in Computer Science Ranked 5th in Nation by Fortune
Thursday, July 27, 2023
New Jersey Institute of Technology is fifth nationwide for its online M.S. in computer science, according to the latest ranking from Fortune. The publication's ranking follows their prior report from January, which placed NJIT's Ying Wu College of Computing fourth nationwide in cybersecurity and data science specialties. "Roles for computer scientists stand to grow 21% during the next decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, and many of these highly technical jobs require a master’s degree," Fortune editors stated. "Graduates of master’s degree programs in computer...
For Sam Sabet, Transferring to NJIT Led to Triple Degrees and a Dream Job
Monday, July 24, 2023
Sam Sabet, the new Chief Technology Officer of industrial audio firm Shure Inc., has an NJIT degree for every season of his career. After transferring from American University in Cairo, Sabet arrived in Newark in 1995 and earned a B.S. in what was then called computer information systems. He returned for an M.S. in electrical engineering to help with his unexpected career in underwater telecommunications at AT&T, and then opted for a Ph.D. in information systems and management, aiding his career evolution into leadership at Crestron Electronics. Shure recruited him in June and Sabet...
Martin Kellogg Lands $450K NSF Grant, Developing New Approach to Stop Bugs
Tuesday, July 18, 2023
NJIT Assistant Professor Martin Kellogg is a software exterminator, obsessed with inventing programs that squash bugs in other people's code, and now he's working on the elusive balance between usability vs. perfection. Kellogg recently won a four-year, $450,000 National Science Foundation grant to advance his research, General and Scalable Pluggable Type Inference. His co-principal investigator, Manu Sridharan at University of California - Riverside, won the same amount. They are assisted by students at both institutions. There's even a teenager helping out from Pingry School, in Basking...
Four Ying Wu College of Computing Students: Life After 2023 Graduation
Thursday, July 13, 2023
“So, what are your plans after graduation?” This is the question asked by uncles and aunts, grandparents, neighbors – and occasionally parents – from the Thanksgiving dinner table right up until graduation day. Four May 2023 Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) graduates highlighted below are a few of many who have hit the ground running and found gainful employment in challenging, growth-oriented positions prior to or immediately following the walk to the dais to receive their diploma. Several of the former students credit getting an early start on the networking and application process,...

Monday, July 10, 2023
Longtime Newark neighbors, Prudential and New Jersey Institute of Technology, have joined forces to help Prudential solve technological challenges while providing exciting opportunities for NJIT students. Like many leading financial organizations, Prudential has introduced cutting-edge digital technologies into its daily operations, increasing internal efficiency and productivity, and improving customer experience and satisfaction. With the obvious benefit comes the organizational challenge of acquiring and maintaining a workforce capable of developing and integrating the relevant...
How Video Games, a Support System and Becoming a Leader at NJIT Helped Me Manage My Mental Health
Monday, June 19, 2023
Growing up, I was very quiet, shy and introverted. As I started to discover myself in my teenage years, I began coming out of the closet at age 12. Because of this, I felt isolated at the time and so I found solace in video games and online forums and communities. I have always struggled with my mental health and it's taken me many years and a lot of work to be able to talk about it so openly. I used to try to hide it or make light of it, but it's been very painful and tough. I cannot emphasize enough that if it were not for video games, I do not think I would have survived high school....
Ying Wu College of Computing Graduates 15% More Students Than Last Year
Thursday, May 25, 2023
The Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) awarded a total of 1,159 degrees at all levels during combined May 2023 graduation ceremonies at Newark’s Prudential Center and NJIT’s WEC arena. This marks a 15% increase in graduating students from the previous year. Of this, 528 undergraduates received a bachelor of science (B.S.), 619 graduate students received a master of science (M.S.), and 12 doctoral candidates earned their Ph.D. It is notable that, for the first time, YWCC has graduated more M.S. than B.S. students despite undergraduate enrollment increasing from 1,800 to 2,500 during the...

What the world needs now is creative thinking and for the next generation of leaders — for all of you — to...
NJIT and Fulbright University, Vietnam Partner in Master's Pathway Program
Thursday, May 18, 2023
The increasing interest in NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) as an educational destination for Vietnamese students has inspired a partnership between NJIT and Fulbright University, Vietnam (FUV). The partnership will offer FUV undergraduate students a unique opportunity for a U.S. educational experience in the global tech hub of the New York metro region, and credit towards an accelerated master’s degree. Success stories of students such as Hang Nguyen ’22, currently a software engineer at Google, and Phung Lai, Ph.D. ’22, who will soon join the faculty at the University of...
NJIT Computing Dean, Craig Gotsman, Awarded Patent for Location Privacy
Wednesday, May 17, 2023
Anyone who downloaded a contact tracing app for the COVID pandemic may have had concerns about privacy risks of location tracking, but such concerns are now addressed in a unique way through a patent recently awarded to Craig Gotsman, dean of NJIT's Ying Wu College of Computing. Location data could easily fall into the wrong hands, making people nervous about using certain kinds of applications such as COVID tracing. To help, Gotsman and longtime collaborator Kai Hormann of Universita della Svizerra Italiana in Lugano, Switzerland, invented a method to easily hide the location data in a...
