Technology Forecast: Atam Dhawan Sets 10 Goalposts for the 2020s

As our civilization evolves, so do our expectations of technology. Together, they demonstrate how dramatic advances in robots, nanotechnology-enabled sensors and high-powered computing will continue to change and evolve our society. Importantly, many of these technologies, including smart robots, point-of-care devices and machine intelligence, will empower individuals to enjoy their lives more purposefully.

NJIT Rated 6th in the Nation for Campus Safety

The Department of Public Safety at NJIT has been ranked sixth nationwide for its campus safety initiatives. The recognition comes from Safe Campus, an independent organization that strives to improve the overall safety and security of U.S. college and university students, and annually rates campuses across the country for their safety measures. 2020 marks the third consecutive year that NJIT placed among the Top 25 of eligible U.S.-accredited higher-education institutions — 4,298 this time around.

Engineering Prof. Misra Named IEEE Fellow, Stops Transistors From Leaking Energy

Durgamadhab Misra is the newest member of NJIT's Newark College of Engineering to become a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Misra won the prestigious award for his ongoing research on preventing transistors from leaking electrons. Every time a transistor leaks an electron, it wastes battery life or hurts performance.

NJIT Online Programs Among the Best, Says U.S. News & World Report

U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 rankings for “Best Online Programs” are out, and NJIT realized gains in four graduate-study areas: business, information technology (IT), engineering and MBA. The rankings are the result of extensive assessments over the past year of more than 1,600 online degree programs nationwide, the highest number evaluated to date.

NJIT-Stryker Alumni Club Helps High Schools Kick Off New Season of First Robotics

The NJIT-Stryker Alumni Club helped local high schools kick off the new season of First Robotics on January 4, 2020.  First Robotics is a national organization that creates the requirements for robotic designs for high school teams where they build a robot and go against other regional high schools in a challenge competition event.  Stryker is a now a Mid-Atlantic First Robotics regional sponsor.  Stryker is funding and mentoring two N.J. high school teams; International High School in Paterson and Science Park High School in Newark.

Researchers Take Exploration of Key "Building Block" Particles Into Space

Jan. 6, 2020 -- As part of SpaceX’s CRS-19 resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS) launched Dec. 5, researchers from NASA, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and New York University (NYU) are set to begin a new scientific investigation to explore how a group of microscopic particles considered key “building blocks” for materials and products here on Earth, known as colloidal particles, behave and form in zero-gravity.

NJIT, Ocean County College Expand and Renew Transfer Agreement

A new two-year agreement between Ocean County College and New Jersey Institute of Technology allows OCC graduates to transfer directly into NJIT colleges.

The agreement went into effect on October 4, 2019 and covers NJIT's College of Science and Liberal Arts; Newark College of Engineering; Martin Tuchman School of Management; and Ying Wu College of Computing.

Juliana Yang Joins the Newest Class of Governor's STEM Scholars

To say that third-year biomedical engineering major Juliana Yang is busy is an understatement. In addition to staying on top of her course work, the Albert Dorman Honors College student is director of public relations for the university’s Student Senate, academic chair of the Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon and publications coordinator at the Office of Student Life.

Communication Networks Pioneer Nirwan Ansari is Named a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors

Nirwan Ansari ’82, a pioneer in the field of communications whose research on telecoms networks formed part of the backbone for broadband access and later FIOS networks, has been named a 2019 Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
