NJIT's Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering Program is #1 in New Jersey, #6 Nationally
NJIT offered the best biomedical engineering program for undergrads in New Jersey according to the 2020 BestValueSchools.com rankings. This program is also ranked sixth nationally. NJIT's biomedical engineering program is part of the Newark College of Engineering (NCE), the oldest and largest professional engineering school in the United States.
Rankings were determined by a variety of factors including acceptance rate, affordability, retention data, student satisfaction and earning potential. Each weighted metric was combined for an overall score.
Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary program that emphasizes cooperative research with industry, rehabilitation institutes and medical centers in the region and leads to careers in biotechnology, medicine, rehabilitation and medical device development. Students applying to medical or dental school after graduation may earn an accelerated B.S. degree in three years.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics draws attention to several specialty areas within the field, including bioinstrumentation, biomaterials, biomechanics and others. The same organization also notes that employment of biomedical engineers is growing steadily at 7% by 2026. Those with degrees in this discipline can choose to continue their education or work in the healthcare, software development, engineering and technology fields.
