NJIT's Online Master's in AI Ranked Among Nation's Best

The Online Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence program offered by NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing has been ranked No. 21 in the nation by MastersInAI.org. The program earned recognition for its strong performance in key areas such as affordability, research output and graduate outcomes.

MastersInAI.org evaluates programs nationwide to provide prospective students with insights into top-tier options for pursuing advanced AI studies. For the 2025 edition of its Best Online Master’s in Artificial Intelligence rankings, MastersInAI.org assessed 75 programs across the country, recognizing NJIT for its outstanding performance in multiple areas:

  • Affordability: NJIT’s program was noted for its cost-effectiveness compared to peer institutions.
  • Student Completions: High completion rates reflected the program’s supportive structure and accessible resources.
  • Reputation: NJIT has earned external recognition for excellence in computer science and artificial intelligence.
  • Research Output: As an R1 research university, NJIT contributes significantly to AI and machine learning advancements, showcasing robust research publications and collaborations.
  • Student Earnings: Graduates of NJIT’s AI program consistently achieve competitive earnings in the workforce, highlighting the program’s return on investment.

The rankings methodology incorporated data from reliable sources, like the U.S. Department of Education, to ensure a fair and accurate assessment. 

“This recognition is a testament to NJIT’s dedication to providing students with a high-quality education in artificial intelligence that explores the latest advances, both in terms of theory and practice,” said Jamie Payton, dean of the Ying Wu College of Computing. “Our program is designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in this rapidly changing field that is at the heart of innovation, and we’re thrilled to see it acknowledged at a national level.”

NJIT’s AI programs are part of a larger push for the university to become a leader in both AI research and application in higher education. The $10 million AI initiative has spurred the launch of the Grace Hopper AI Research Institute, expanded investment to attract top-tier AI talent at NJIT and created the Center for Educational Innovation Excellence, where experts will study AI’s role in enhancing curricula and effective teaching/learning.
