Each spring around Commencement, NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts holds its very own celebration, awarding its standout student and faculty stars from across the college’s diverse academic spectrum of art, history and humanities to physics, biology and chemistry.

While Martin Tuchman School of Management ’s faculty, staff and students and their families could not gather traditionally this year for MTSM’s annual awards ceremony, the event, held virtually May 19, still emanated great pride in and affection for the school’s 2020 graduates. Like most other end-of-school-year celebrations worldwide, it was conducted online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Community and urban planners throughout North Jersey will soon have a thorough digital inventory of their sidewalks, based on a unique use of geospatial intelligence software led by Ying Wu College of Computing Associate Professor Xinyue Ye and his Ph.D. student Huan Ning, on behalf of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA). Planners can use such databases to help guide their decisions about where and how to invest in construction and infrastructure projects.

On March 15, Chief Justice Stuart Rabner suspended in-person proceedings in New Jersey Superior Court, giving the judiciary two days to prepare for virtual courtrooms. By that afternoon, Passaic County Superior Court Judge Sohail Mohammed, ’88, a former electrical engineer and technology enthusiast, had already established one in the basement of his house.

David Michaelson is the latest Ying Wu College of Computing graduate to enter Google's software engineering residency program. Michaelson finished his computer science degree in May with plenty of experience. Besides studying, he worked 20 hours per week for several semesters starting in 2018 as an applications development intern at Broadridge Financial Solutions, riding his electric scooter back and forth between NJIT and downtown Newark.

Through the university’s partnership with Strive for College, an online college mentoring platform, NJIT students are invited to participate in a free pilot program over the next year aimed at helping them complete their courses, earn a degree and prepare for living-wage careers after college.

As a kid growing up in Omaha, Neb., Chloe Jelley ’20 had a major aversion to insects that many can relate with. “I was one of the more careful kids and I was not into bugs at all when I was young … actually, I was really afraid of all bugs,” recalled Jelley.

NJIT broadcaster Mike Ventola caught up with senior Milena Bajic from the NJIT women's basketball team after finals to discuss Bajic's career at NJIT and what is next for the Highlander alum. Bajic joined the Highlander squad in 2017-18 after playing two seasons at Memphis.

Mechanical engineering student and Albert Dorman Honors Scholar Josh Gallic will graduate this semester and has a job offer from Valcor Engineering to be a junior design engineer.
