NJIT Shines as a 'Best Global University' by US News & World Report Rankings
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) once again is ranked among the best international universities in the 2021 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s global college and university rankings. The university saw its overall score increase in the expanded rankings.
Notably, NJIT is one of only six universities in New Jersey to make the list of nearly 1,500 institutions from 86 countries scored by the publication.
“NJIT has worked meticulously to engage in research and collaboration projects both close to home and abroad and to make its academic programs widely accessible,” said Fadi P. Deek, provost and senior executive vice president of NJIT. “As a polytechnic university with local and global impact, we will continue to emphasize the importance of ground-breaking and applied research, and nurture a productive research environment involving both faculty and students.”
In this year’s edition, 10 additional subject rankings in STEM fields were included in the methodology to make a total of 38 subjects. NJIT’s electrical and electronic engineering program saw its position rise, putting the university in the top 10% globally for its academic offering.
NJIT saw score increases in several other methodology categories as well, including regional research reputation, publication of scholarly papers published to impactful journals, conference papers published, and number and ratio of “highly cited” papers.
NJIT’s placement among the best universities globally comes soon after NJIT again made U.S. News & World Report’s best national university rankings that included the following lists: Best Undergraduate Business Programs, Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs, Best Undergraduate Computer Science Programs, Top Public Schools and Best Social Mobility.
In addition to its U.S. News rankings, NJIT is proud to be #1 nationally, according to Forbes, for the percentage of those students who rise from the lowest quintile of family income to the highest quintiles of income 10 years after graduation. NJIT also is rated an R1 research university by the Carnegie Classification, which is the highest possible ranking. And Payscale.com ranks NJIT #43 out of more than 4,000 universities — the top 2% — for mid-career earnings of our graduates.
