Message from President Bloom - Women's History Month
NJIT community members,
The month of March, for more than 30 years, has been designated as Women’s History Month and is celebrated as a national tradition. At NJIT, we proudly participate in this opportunity to recognize the impact of women on our university, our society, and our world.
Throughout this month, our campus community will experience a number of programs designed to highlight the success of women at our university, in professional fields and throughout society. The signature event each year is the Women Designing the Future Conference, hosted by NJIT’s Murray Center for Women in Technology under the leadership of Dr. Nancy Steffen-Fluhr. This year’s conference will take place on Friday, March 27 and will be themed “Imagining Change! New Strategies for Inspiring Community Action on Climate Change and Environmental Disruption.” The event is being co-sponsored by the Albert Dorman Honors College, the College of Science and Liberal Arts, and the university's Technology and Society Forum.
It is important that we celebrate Women’s History Month and embrace our responsibility to cultivate future generations of women studying, researching, and working in the STEM sectors. Our challenge goes beyond attracting significantly more women to these fields; we also must make certain there are pathways for women to assume positions of leadership throughout the science and tech world. We are incredibly proud of the many NJIT women who have become both leaders and agents for change within their fields, and we strive to grow that pipeline exponentially in the years ahead.
So, please join NJIT in honoring the many women who have bettered our university and our world while we simultaneously work to create opportunities for the next generation of women leaders.
Sincerely,
NJIT President Joel S. Bloom
