PhD Graduate Jorge Alberto Medina's Passion for Electronics Started in his Native Honduras
Wednesday, March 13, 2024
Jorge Alberto Medina '23 grew up with electronics. He recalls watching his dad disassemble and rebuild electronic equipment, and leafed through stacks of monthly electronics magazines as his light reading material. The exposure grew into a passion, and Medina set his sights on a journey that ultimately brought him to NJIT. In his native Honduras, Medina studied electrical engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras. He obtained his master's degree in Sweden at the Blekinge Institute of Technology, where he studied electrical engineering with an emphasis on...

Two NJIT undergrads and an alumnus have landed prestigious awards from the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists (NJ-SPJ) for their outstanding contributions to the university’s student newspaper, The Vector. Joshi, a...
Perfect Record: All of NJIT's Pre-Health Seniors Accepted into Grad Programs
Monday, August 7, 2023
There aren’t many better places in the region to be than NJIT if you’re an undergraduate student aspiring to become a medical professional, and the numbers are backing it up. This year’s entire graduating cohort from NJIT’s Pre-health Program has been accepted and is matriculating into graduate health professional programs of their choice, according to NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts (CSLA). The success of 2023’s class of 33 pre-health majors marks the first time the program has reported a perfect acceptance rate since being established under CSLA’s Department of...
Four Ying Wu College of Computing Students: Life After 2023 Graduation
Thursday, July 13, 2023
“So, what are your plans after graduation?” This is the question asked by uncles and aunts, grandparents, neighbors – and occasionally parents – from the Thanksgiving dinner table right up until graduation day. Four May 2023 Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) graduates highlighted below are a few of many who have hit the ground running and found gainful employment in challenging, growth-oriented positions prior to or immediately following the walk to the dais to receive their diploma. Several of the former students credit getting an early start on the networking and application process,...
First-Class Success: NJIT Mayor's Scholar Pursues Law Degree at University of Maryland
Wednesday, June 21, 2023
When Kiaja Jones ’23 arrived at NJIT from Newark’s Technology High School in 2019, she did so as part of the inaugural class of local scholars from the Mayor’s Honors Scholar Program. Now she’s leaving her home city, diploma in-hand, as a reflection of the program’s early success and will be pursuing a law degree at the University of Maryland in the fall. While Jones began her first semester as an IT major, she says it wasn’t exactly a straightforward path. Her academic journey was one of self-discovery, eventually finding her calling through NJIT’s Law, Technology and Culture program....
How Video Games, a Support System and Becoming a Leader at NJIT Helped Me Manage My Mental Health
Monday, June 19, 2023
Growing up, I was very quiet, shy and introverted. As I started to discover myself in my teenage years, I began coming out of the closet at age 12. Because of this, I felt isolated at the time and so I found solace in video games and online forums and communities. I have always struggled with my mental health and it's taken me many years and a lot of work to be able to talk about it so openly. I used to try to hide it or make light of it, but it's been very painful and tough. I cannot emphasize enough that if it were not for video games, I do not think I would have survived high school....
Senior Success: Civil Engineer Lara Rios is Proud of All the Memories She Made at NJIT
Thursday, June 1, 2023
For Lara Rios ’23, NJIT has been an important part of her family’s life. Her uncle and father graduated from NJIT, and her brother is also studying at the university. As president of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and diversity and inclusion officer of the Student Senate, Rios has always made it her number one priority to help her fellow peers feel at home at NJIT. “The student organizations that I've been a part of, it hasn't just been surface level. I really considered those in Senate to be like a family to me, and those with SHPE,” said Rios, an Albert Dorman...
Engineer from India Found a Home at NJIT, Earning a Master's and Landing a Job in NJ
Tuesday, May 30, 2023
Anjali Khushalani worked in her native India as a project manager and process manager before arriving at New Jersey Institute of Technology last fall to pursue a master’s in engineering management. Khushalani took an intensive route, concentrating on industrial engineering and earning her degree from NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering in just two semesters. And although her time on campus was relatively brief, she felt at home thanks to the university’s Office of Global Initiatives, some exceptional professors and clubs like the Association of Indian Students and Spectrum. Now, as she...

Friday, May 19, 2023
The head of New Jersey’s largest utility urged the Class of 2023 at New Jersey Institute of Technology to embrace change and remain positive in the face of challenges ranging from climate change and social inequity to artificial intelligence. “Finding solutions will require new faces and perspectives and for us to reject the status quo,” said Kim Hanemann, president and chief operating officer of PSE&G. “I encourage you to stay hopeful and press on even when things seem scary. What the world needs now is creative thinking and for the next generation of leaders — for all of you — to...
NJIT Scholar Brings Can-Do Mindset to Her Next Chapter at UPenn
Thursday, May 18, 2023
Be it in a lab, in a classroom or on a soccer field, New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Cassidy Landis is focused, driven and caring. Those qualities should serve her well as she becomes a research associate at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. Landis, who earned a bachelor’s in biology from NJIT, will work in the Baxter Lab, which examines Achilles tendon ruptures, tendinopathy and the rehabilitation process. She’s well-prepared, having worked in health care — including as a nursing assistant at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center — and having competed as an...
