NJIT Professor Receives Google Faculty Research Award
Thursday, April 4, 2019
Qiang Tang is one of the researchers around the globe receiving this highly competitive award: this year Google received 910 proposals covering 40 countries and more than 320 universities. Tang was recognized for his work in cliptography, an advanced form of cryptography, which preserves the security of cryptographic tools even if they encounter malicious software or hardware implementations containing backdoors. The battle to keep online data secure and create encoding mechanisms to prevent online theft of currency and intellectual property is never ending. As companies and...

Challenges, Camaraderie and Melee, All at NJIT's ACM Chapter
Tuesday, March 19, 2019
Stop by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) office on any given afternoon and you might find students getting help on a project for their CS 100 class, or students discussing the value of ethical hacking. Or you may catch a group of ACM members playing their unofficial video game —Super Smash Bros. Melee. NJIT’s chapter of the ACM has been around for more than a decade and has more than 70 active members. “It’s basically a hub for all computing students,” said Migle Surblyte, a junior computer science major and public relations director for the chapter. “I’m a commuter, so ACM...

Monday, March 18, 2019
NJIT has again earned a spot on The Princeton Review’s top 50 undergraduate schools for game design coming in at No. 44 in the 2019 rankings. The Princeton Review chose the schools based on data it collected in its 2018 survey of administrators at 150 institutions that offer game design courses, majors, or degree programs. Surveyed schools were in the U.S., Canada and abroad. The survey gathered data on everything from the schools' game design academic offerings and lab facilities to their graduates’ starting salaries and career achievements. More than 40 data points in four areas (...

Computing Dean Elected to National Academy of Inventors
Tuesday, December 11, 2018
At NJIT, Craig Gotsman is best known as dean of Ying Wu College of Computing. Within the scientific community, he is better known as the inventor of a number of cutting-edge software technologies for manipulating 3D geometric data, enabling their use in a variety of applications. Many of these technologies have been patented and commercialized, some through startup companies, which Gotsman founded — spinoffs of his academic research. In recognition of these achievements, Gotsman has been named a Fellow of the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (NAI) for 2018. Election to NAI Fellow status...

NJIT Launches A Potent Research Hub: The Institute for Space Weather Sciences
Wednesday, November 28, 2018
Both on land and in space, Earth’s technology-centered civilization is increasingly vulnerable to the powerful bursts of electromagnetic radiation, energetic charged particles and magnetized plasma known as space weather. As the complexity of engineered systems increases, as new technologies are invented and deployed, and as humans venture ever further beyond Earth’s surface, both human-built systems and humans themselves become more susceptible to the effects of the planet’s space environment. It is with these vulnerabilities in mind – and in response to urgent calls from government...
