Dana Knox Research Showcase Celebrates High-Impact Student Research
Wednesday, April 30, 2025
NJIT’s Dana Knox Research Showcase returned in 2025 to once again highlight the innovative and impactful work of students across disciplines. The event celebrated undergraduate and graduate researchers tackling real-world challenges with creative, technical solutions. Now in its 20th year, the showcase was also its largest — over 150 presentations by 200+ students spanned all six of NJIT’s colleges. "The Dana Knox Showcase continues to exemplify the innovative spirit and academic excellence that define NJIT," said Provost John A. Pelesko. "Our students' research not only advances...
Cybersecurity Researcher at NJIT Toughens Git Software Repositories
Tuesday, April 29, 2025
Git, the most common protocol for computer programmers to keep track of their code, is becoming more secure because of software jointly developed by researchers at New Jersey Institute of Technology and New York University. Git underpins services such as GitHub, which alone has more than 100 million active users worldwide. But there have been security concerns over the years, and one problem is that Git-based systems rely on centralized administration requiring users to trust without the ability to verify, NJIT computer science professor Reza Curtmola explained. Curtmola and his NYU...
An Alarm Clock that Hides From You is Highlight of MakeNJIT Competition
Monday, April 28, 2025
A robotic alarm clock that hides from you, so you have to get out of bed anyway if you wish to silence it, was the star Highlander entry in the spring 2025 edition of the MakeNJIT hardware hackathon. The clockmakers earned third place overall among 47 teams from several universities. Members of Team Daniel knew that many tinkerers have built such devices, but they designed their own version just for the fun and education of it. Daniel’s roster included mechanical engineering major Jiro Dela Cruz, his fraternal twin brother Juno who studies computer science, Andrey Diaz-Ortega also in...
Data Science Major Danielle Grunwald Will Become an Axtria Analyst
Monday, April 21, 2025
Graduating NJIT senior Danielle Grunwald and her employer as of this summer, Axtria Inc., are made for each other — Grunwald loves digging into life sciences data to extract useful insights, and that’s the gist of what Axtria does. Grunwald is wrapping up her studies with a B.S. in data science from Ying Wu College of Computing. She was also an Albert Dorman Honors College scholar, the only female member of the NJIT bowling team (personal high score 268), active with the Nucleus yearbook and an event coordinator for the Student Activities Council. “The minute I came onto this campus, I...
JerseyCTF 2025 Was (A Lot) More Than Fun and Games
Monday, April 21, 2025
The NJIT JerseyCTF competition is now in its fifth year and has continued to draw competitors on-campus and around the world in a quest to hack their way through a series of information security style puzzles to “capture the flag” and win an impressive array of prizes — along with bragging rights as placeholders among what has become a global phenomenon in CTF competitions. The annual event, a collaboration between NJIT’s Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) chapter and the NJIT Information and Cybersecurity Club (NICC), culminated in a record 154 on-campus players this year. The...
NJIT Senior Lecturer Fuad Hamidli Shares Expert Insights at AARP's Newark Fraud Summit
Thursday, April 10, 2025
Fuad Hamidli, a senior university lecturer in the Ying Wu College of Computing and recognized expert in cryptography and cybercrime prevention, was a featured speaker and panelist at the AARP Newark Fraud Summit: Fraud 360 – Awareness, Prevention & Recovery, held in collaboration with AARP New Jersey and NJIT. The summit brought together leading voices from cybersecurity, law enforcement, and fraud investigation, including representatives from the NJIT Police Department and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, to educate the public on the tactics scammers use—and how to guard against them...

Donors from across the region and as far away as Sweden convened, united by a shared commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators at NJIT. The annual brunch serves as a vital platform for scholarship recipients to connect directly with the generous individuals and families whose contributions make their academic journeys possible. The event underscored the profound impact...

The latest graduate studies rankings from U.S. News & World Report highlight the national standing of New Jersey Institute of Technology in the fields of engineering, computer science and now business. Experience Day 2025: Accepted YWCC Students See the Fun Side of Computing
Friday, April 4, 2025
All hard work and no play makes “techies” anxious for more. 244 recently accepted high school seniors and their parents need not worry. Although the Ying Wu College of Computing’s (YWCC) programs are rigorous (that is the reason why they are the most significant generator of tech talent in the NY metro area), the theme for this spring’s Experience Day centered on what is fun and “cool” about the work in the school. “It’s fun from day one!” proclaimed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Brook Wu, whose event enhancements for a more engaging experience included faculty and student panels, e-...
Computing Student Earns Spot in One of the World's Most Competitive Hackathons
Friday, March 28, 2025
Haley Patel, an undergraduate computer science student in the Ying Wu College of Computing, recently represented NJIT at Stanford University's TreeHacks 2025, one of the most competitive hackathons globally. Sponsored by tech giants like NVIDIA, Google and OpenAI, TreeHacks received more than 12,000 applications, and selected only 1,000 participants. “It was incredible to represent NJIT on such a big stage. Working alongside brilliant minds from Stanford, UC Berkeley, and the University of Waterloo was truly inspiring,” Patel said. “The tech culture on the West Coast, especially its...
