NJIT's Learning and Development Initiative Launches Game Development Programs
Building on New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) legacy of empowering career-focused learners, NJIT’s Learning and Development Initiative (LDI) is expanding its opportunities for professionals in the technology industry.
The LDI will launch a series of accelerated, fully online technology programs in collaboration with Flatiron School. The first two non-credit programs offered will be catered towards professionals eager to level up their skills in, or make a bold career move into, game design or game programming.
“At NJIT, we believe that high-quality, industry-driven education should be accessible to anyone ready to take the next step in their career. Our partnership with Flatiron School reflects our commitment to providing non-credit programming that equips professionals with the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed in today’s fast-evolving tech landscape,” said Michael Edmondson, associate provost of Continued Learning at NJIT. “This new partnership supports New Jersey’s growing tech ecosystem and it empowers learners to reimagine what’s possible for their futures.”

The program launch is coming at a time when Newark is experiencing a “tech revival” and emerging as a “rising tech hub on the East Coast.”
“With these new programs, we’re not just teaching skills — we’re creating career pathways. Our goal is to make sure the talent in Newark as well as all of New Jersey have the opportunities it deserves to break into tech, grow, and thrive in an industry that hasn’t always been easy to access,” said Ryan Mass, director of the LDI.

The LDI's innovative program structure offers multiple entry points, from foundational courses for career-changers to advanced modules for experienced professionals looking to upgrade their skills. This flexible, tiered approach ensures that whether a student is making their first foray into tech or deepening their existing expertise, they'll find a learning path that matches their experience level and career goals.

Designed for working professionals, these online programs combine the convenience of remote learning with the rigor associated with in-person instruction. Instructors are at the top of their game and bring real industry experience to the table.
Each program balances theoretical foundations with hands-on projects that mirror real-world challenges in game design and development. This practical approach ensures graduates not only master essential technical skills but also develop the problem-solving abilities and professional confidence needed to thrive in a competitive tech market.

If a student needs academic assistance, motivation or guidance through challenges, the student services team can help.
