NJIT's Civil Engineering Program Ranked Top 10 in the U.S. by College Factual
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s civil engineering program now ranks among “the top 10 nationally”, according to the latest data published by College Factual.
The rankings, which place NJIT’s civil engineering program at #9 and within the top 5 percent of all civil engineering programs offered in the U.S., reflect a scorecard-based assessment of data collected from more than 200 civil engineering programs nationwide. The site’s rankings system is weighted to take into account factors such as education quality, average earnings of graduates and accreditation, among other relevant factors.
“Our ranking confirms that we are on the right track in terms of delivering a program that is based on what employers need today and tomorrow,” said Taha Marhaba, professor and chairman of the John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at NJIT. “We make our graduates marketable by providing them with the appropriate modern tools necessary to be successful.”
According to College Factual, civil engineering ranks 21 out of 121 college majors in regards to projected salary, with civil engineering students typically earning 22 percent more than the standard college graduate.
The rankings highlight NJIT’s civil engineering program specifically for the low default rates of its majors, exemplary student SAT scores, percentage of students at the college studying that major, and above average earnings boosts compared to other civil engineering graduates throughout the country.
“New Jersey Institute of Technology is among your best bets if you're planning on studying civil engineering,” notes College Factual’s review. “Civil engineering students from New Jersey Institute of Technology get an earnings boost of approximately 15.2 percent above the average earnings of civil engineering graduates.”
College Factual’s assessment adds, “Considering the fact that 7 percent of borrowers have defaulted, NJIT's default rate of 4 percent is quite notable.”
“Our faculty embed industrial experience from the freshmen year all the way to the senior year of the program, said Dr. Marhaba. “We owe our success to the team effort of our university leadership, faculty, staff, students, student chapters, alumni and industrial advisory board, passionately working together to make our program better every day.”
One of the oldest and largest professional engineering schools in the United States, NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering offers nine undergraduate degree programs, 23 master’s and nine doctoral degree programs. Undergraduate enrollment is more than 4,000, and more than 1,500 are enrolled in graduate study. The 150-member faculty includes engineers and scholars who are widely recognized in their fields.
