New Jersey Institute of Technology will host a screening of A Chip Odyssey, a feature-length documentary tracing Taiwan’s transformation into a global semiconductor leader, in partnership with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York.
Organized by NJIT’s Office of the President and TECO-NY, the event will bring together university leaders, international representatives and members of the technology and cultural community for a screening and post-film discussion on the people, policy decisions and engineering breakthroughs behind Taiwan’s semiconductor ascent.
NJIT President Teik C. Lim and TECO-NY Ambassador Tom Chih-chiang Lee will deliver opening remarks before the screening. A post-screening Q&A will feature director Hsiao Chu-Chen.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Hsiao Chu-Chen and produced by semiconductor veteran Ben Chen and CNEX co-founder Ben Tsiang, A Chip Odyssey examines Taiwan’s journey from early semiconductor development to its current role as a critical force in global technology, AI and advanced chipmaking. The documentary draws on voices across generations — from pioneering engineers and line technicians to policymakers, scientists and younger professionals now facing new choices in the semiconductor industry.
The screening offers an opportunity to cover an international cultural and technology event at NJIT, connecting Taiwan’s semiconductor history with broader questions of global innovation, economic competitiveness, international relations and the technologies powering AI and modern digital life.
NJIT has strong ties to Taiwan, including a vibrant alumni association chapter and academic partnerships with institutions such as Taipei Tech, National Tsing Hua University, National Taiwan Ocean University and Ming Chi University of Technology. The event also connects with NJIT’s role as a technology-focused research university working in areas such as artificial intelligence, sustainable infrastructure, medical devices and cybersecurity.
