NJIT Launches ScholarshipUniverse: A Scholarship-Matching Tool for Students
Oct. 9, 2019 – New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced it is now offering a new way for students to connect with scholarship opportunities through the launch of ScholarshipUniverse — a “state-of-the-art digital scholarship-matching system aimed toward maximizing funding for students.”
ScholarshipUniverse, developed by the student financial services platform CampusLogic, is an online portal intended to reduce “scholarship search fatigue” by bridging students to vetted scholarship opportunities through an adaptive matching engine, which identifies relevant scholarships based on individual students' personal information, needs and eligibility.
A customized version of the scholarship-finding platform is available through NJIT’s website, intended to streamline access to a broad range of available scholarships for current and deposited students.
The centralized, secure online platform will be managed by the university’s Office of Student Financial Aid Services.
“As part of our strategic mission, NJIT is constantly seeking to provide high-quality, affordable education to our diverse body of students,” said Wendy-Lin Cook, associate provost, Enrollment Management and Academic Services. “In our effort to improve accessibility to higher education and limit student debt, the university is proud to offer ScholarshipUniverse, which will provide tailored scholarship opportunities for our current and incoming students.”
“There are many external organizations that want to invest in students from a STEM-focused university like NJIT,” said Ivon Nunez, director of NJIT’s Student Financial Aid Services. “We’ve wanted to offer an all-in-one solution that will vet scholarships from such organizations and make them more attainable for all students, including many of our first-generation students who may struggle finding opportunities to apply for. Our aim is to help them cancel or reduce their loans by connecting with legitimate scholarships through this easy-to-use platform.”
In total, CampusLogichas estimated nearly 10,000 scholarship opportunities are currently available through the ScholarshipUniverse database.
NJIT students will have access to the mobile-friendly online portal using their student UCID login information. Based on information submitted to build their personalized ScholarshipUniverse profile, students will be able to review a customized list of scholarship opportunities that they qualify for, learn the dollar value of matched opportunities, and directly connect and submit online applications with organizations offering those scholarships.
NJIT’s ScholarshipUniverse platform is expected to expand in the coming year to include internal scholarship opportunities with additional scholarship application management features, such as application progress tracking, deadline reminders, electronic storage of documents such as essay submissions and letters of recommendation, and more. The platform is also expected to be made available through the Highlander Pipeline in the coming year.
“We will be adding a lot of bells and whistles in terms of the software’s internal scholarship management capabilities,” said Nunez. “It will help our students engage more directly and speed the selection process for endowed awards.”
