NJIT Launches Council to Hear from Students
In an effort for students to share their insights and drive positive change within the NJIT community, Provost and Senior Vice president for Academic Affairs John Pelesko, and Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Marybeth Boger have launched the NJIT Undergraduate Student Advisory Council.
This council will enable enthusiastic undergraduates to have informal conversations with the provost and the dean of students, helping to keep NJIT leadership informed, in real time, about the student experience.
“It’s important to not just plan for the next semester, but to plan for the next generation,” said Pelesko. “The Student Advisory Council will help shape the student experience for today’s students and for that next generation. I’m looking forward to getting to know each council member and to discuss all aspects of their experience here at NJIT.”
The council is expected to have representation from each of the university’s six colleges, students from all academic years and a membership that reflects the rich diversity of the campus community. A total of 15-20 members will serve for a term of two years or until they graduate, whichever comes first.
“Providing students an opportunity to voice their concerns and share their perspectives is extremely important as we continue to grow as an institution,” said Boger. “Such an opportunity will promote a sense of belonging and foster a more inclusive and student-centered learning environment.”
Monthly meetings will be held during the academic year and will provide a platform for meaningful discussions. Attendees will include the provost, dean of students, provost's chief of staff and other staff members, based on the meeting topic.
To be considered for membership on the council, please complete the application process, which can be found on the council’s website by Friday, Oct. 6.
