NJIT Athletics Announces Fueling Station
The NJIT Athletics Department continues to show its commitment to the health, wellness, and overall experience for its student-athletes with the unveiling of the brand new NJIT Highlanders fueling station.
The daily schedule of a student-athlete is more complex than that of your typical college student. With so many different items on the to-do list, maintaining a healthy, nutritional diet while navigating a constantly busy lifestyle is a difficult task.
"I am very excited about our new fueling station," said Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan. "Our student-athletes are regularly pressed for time between their academic priorities and athletic responsibilities. This fueling station is a way for us to provide convenient, fast, nutritional supplements - pre or post workout - in order to assist in the re-hydration, refueling and recovery of their bodies as needed."
The fueling station has been specifically designed to educate NJIT student-athletes about nutrition and healthy eating habits while providing dietary and nutritional support to meet their demanding schedules.
The fueling station, located on the third floor of NJIT's Wellness and Events Center, will feature various everyday foods such as fruit, PB&J sandwiches, string cheese, yogurt, trail mix, granola bars and a smoothie bar, all in an effort to properly ensure proper hydration and recovery for student-athletes after team workouts and practices.
What They Are Saying?
NJIT Strength and Conditioning Staff: "We are very excited about the addition of the Fueling Station here at NJIT and this will ensure the student-athletes can meet their nutritional needs. We know how hard they work and how busy they are. That is what makes this initiative so exciting. This will ensure our student-athletes have more of an opportunity to sustain their demanding academic and athletic endeavors."
Head Women's Basketball Mike Lane
"Highlander Women's Basketball is very excited about the new Refueling Station. Our student-athletes are on the go with commitments in various places throughout any given day - the strength room, the classroom, the training room, the practice floor, labs, study hall etc - and our basketball engagements very often abut with responsibilities somewhere else on campus with not much time to get there. This new amenity allows our players to stay nourished, to avoid "running on empty," and to refuel, restore and recover more efficiently and effectively."
Head Women's Soccer Ally Nick
"Being a student-athlete alone is challenging and demanding. At an academically ranked institution like NJIT, the classwork demand is even higher. Paired with the performance demand, student athletes are always on the go. As coaches and student athletes, we are fortunate to have administrators and support staff recognize the demand and implement the fueling station to cater to our student-athletes' on the go lifestyle. This will allow student-athletes to be fueled and ready for the whole day."
