NJIT Among the 'Best' in Money Magazine Rating of Colleges Nationwide
MONEY Magazine has recently named NJIT as one of the best colleges in America.
In building the rankings, MONEY focused on three basic factors that surveys show are the most important to students: quality of education, affordability and alumni outcomes.
The rankings analyzed data points, such as graduation rates, tuition charges, family borrowing and alumni earnings (plus 22 additional data points) to find the country’s top values.
Among one of the most impactful data points was the socio-economic mobility index, which reveals the percentage of students each institution move from low-income backgrounds to upper-middle-class jobs by the time the student reaches their mid-30s.
It is this data point, compiled by The Equality of Opportunity Project, that has been cited by Forbes and The New York Times in previous rankings of NJIT as No. 1 nationally for upward economic mobility.
NJIT President Joel S. Bloom said, "People are becoming more and more aware of what NJIT has to offer talented, determined, and diverse students. We are #1 in the entire nation for student economic upward mobility. We are in the top 1-2% of universities for return on educational investment, according to Payscale.com. We have invested approximately $400 million in facilities, technology, and amenities that make the educational experience we offer first rate. And the disciplines in which we prepare students put them in great demand in what has unquestionably become a STEM economy."
NJIT Executive Vice President and Provost Fadi Deek added, “Our reputation continues to appreciate and students are attracted by both what is happening at NJIT and what a degree from our university will mean for their future. Student outcomes, such as our retention rates, graduation rates, and average starting- and mid-career salaries for NJIT graduates are all climbing. That’s a compelling narrative based on quantifiable results.”
