NJIT played a prominent role in the National Brownfields Training Conference sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the International City/County Management Association. Held last December in Pittsburgh, the conference brought together several thousand environmental professionals, government officials, engineers, community representatives, real estate developers and investors, academics and others to learn, share ideas and experiences —and build new relationships focused on cleaning up contaminated land.

New Jersey Institute of Technology’s civil engineering program now ranks among “the top 10 nationally”, according to the latest data published by College Factual.

Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan has been named a 2017-18 Division I-AAA Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year (ADOY) award recipient by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Kaplan was one of 28 winners. NJIT senior Kelly Guarino has been selected to the 2018 ASUN Conference All-Academic team. The league office announced postseason honors and awards Thursday. This marks the first selection for Guarino, who is a business major with a concentration in marketing and minor in communications. She earned Dean's List seven-out-of-eight semesters at NJIT. NJIT men's fencing ended the conference regular season undefeated and placed second at the MACFA Championships defeating the 14 teams they competed against. Despite NJIT besting them at the championships, the Highlanders earned second place with 110 wins behind Johns Hopkins who accumulate 111 victories. They were newly arrived from China for a semester-long, customized, professional development program at NJIT, and for most of them the journey marked their first time coming to the United States. While some of the 10 employees from the China Triumph International Engineering Company, Ltd. (CTIEC) were still recovering from jet lag, all were happy to be settling in at the university, as evidenced during an official welcome luncheon held Feb. 14.

Newark College of Engineering (NCE) at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will celebrate its continued commitment to engineering education advancement at the 20th annual Salute to Engineering Excellence March 21, 2017, 6-9 p.m. at Nanina’s In the Park in Belleville, N.J. Proceeds from the event will benefit the NJIT Makerspace.

U.S. technology, government and academic leaders in the areas of data analytics and innovation in urban environments will meet at the new NJIT- Wellness and Events Center (WEC) in Newark October 15-16 to discuss city-university partnerships. The MetroLab Network, launched as part of the White House’s Smart Cities Initiative in 2015, selected NJIT to host its third National Summit.

The National Council for Home Safety and Security, a trade association of home security professionals that advocates for safe communities and home safety, ranks NJIT among the Top 100 Safest College Campuses in America. The university joins five other Garden State institutions of higher education in receiving this honor.
