When Chidanand “Cid” Khode ’18 walked across the stage at graduation, he was able to check off a few things on his to-do list: make new friends, graduate with a degree in computer science and find a good job. But his biggest accomplishment, he says, was honoring a personal commitment to leave a contribution to the next generation of Highlanders.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) conferred 2,885 bachelor’s and doctoral degrees at the 102nd commencement ceremony May 15 at the Prudential Center in Newark.

While not featured on most product ingredient labels, the organic chemical stabilizer and manufacturing byproduct, 1,4-dioxane, can be found in countless everyday household items — from shampoos and cosmetics to laundry detergents and antifreeze. Partly due to its widespread use over many decades, the chemical has now been implicated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as an “emerging contaminant of concern” at groundwater and drinking water sites across the U.S., with no effective method for its removal yet established.

Senior Jesse Uttendorfer became NJIT's all-time hit leader, Tommy Derer registered his fourth win of the season and Johnny Malatesta tabbed his fifth save of the season in NJIT's 3-2 win over Kennesaw State Sunday afternoon in ASUN Conference action at Stillwell Stadium. With the win, the Highlanders earn its first ASUN Conference series over the Owls, improving to 7-11 in the ASUN, 20-22 overall while Kennesaw State drops to 11-7 in the ASUN and 25-24 overall. The 20 wins are the most since 2015 when NJIT finished with 24.

On Saturday, May 12, 2018, NJIT President Joel S. Bloom visited the United Nations in New York City to deliver a speech on “Business-Education Ecosystems Undergirding Sustainable Development” at the Creating a Shared Future for Entrepreneurs and Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Conference. The event was hosted in partnership with the International Council for Small Business.

Two NJIT staff members will serve on a panel of industry representatives at the presentation on “The Future of Work is Changing Rapidly. Are You Ready?” being conducted jointly by Jersey Shore Association for Human Resources and Monmouth County Workforce Development, at Bell Works, Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 9 a.m. -11 a.m., in Holmdel, N.J.
