Men's Tennis Rolls Past FDU for Seventh Straight Sweep

The NJIT men's tennis team cruised to its seventh straight sweep to open the season, defeating FDU 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Highlanders got off on the right foot in doubles, with Pablo Perez Ramos and Wil Jenkins taking a convincing 6-2 win in the No. 1 position. Nejc Skorjanc and Oscar Callo von Platen performed well to edge out a 7-5 win on the No. 2 court, while Soma Fukuhara and Severin Risan coasted to a 6-1 win in No. 3 doubles.
In singles, five of the six matches were straight set victories for the Highlanders. Perez Ramos continued his stellar play to open the spring with a win in the No. 1 slot, 6-2, 6-2. Skorjanc captured a win in the No. 2 position, 6-3, 6-2, while Soma Fukuhara grabbed a straight sets win in No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Callo von Platen (6-2, 6-1) and Maxime Hankins (6-2, 6-2) each picked up dominant wins in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Jenkins had to battle hard for his singles win on the No. 3 court. The junior fell behind in the match early, dropping the first set, 6-1. Jenkins would rally, taking set two, 6-2, before putting his stamp on the match with a 6-3 win in the third set to take the victory.
"Good day at the office today," said Head Coach Marco Matteucci. "Our doubles keep improving. Good to see Wil back in the singles lineup and pulling out a tough win today. Our schedule just gets tougher as we go along so the guys know we need to buckle down and start taking care of the details in each match."
The Highlanders wrap up their long stretch of home matches to open the season Feb. 22 when they host Drexel at 2 p.m.
