Fellowship Named for Management Dean Will Support Ph.D. Students
It was a surprise to outgoing Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM) dean, Reggie Caudill. But for those behind the scenes collecting donations and making arrangements, the establishment of a fellowship bearing his name was undoubtedly the most appropriate way to recognize him for his dedication to the school over the past few years.
The Dr. Reggie J. Caudill Endowed Fellowship in Business Data Science will provide research stipends for students enrolled in MTSM’s Ph.D.-level Business Data Science Program. It honors Caudill for “the marked growth of Martin Tuchman School of Management, notable expansion of its academic programs, successful implementation of key legacy initiatives, and positive impacts on students, colleagues and the larger community led, mentored and inspired by Dr. Caudill during his tenure as dean.”
What’s also notable about the fellowship is that it’s funded by MTSM and NJIT faculty, staff, colleagues, alumni and collaborators. The total amount raised, which includes a generous gift from MTSM namesake Martin Tuchman and a contribution from Caudill himself, is now more than $110,000.
“I am deeply humbled and overwhelmed by the generosity and thoughtfulness of so many of my colleagues, friends and students. It’s truly an honor to be part of the NJIT family and its continuing legacy!” said Caudill, who, surrounded by his family, first learned of the fellowship and was presented with a certificate at MTSM’s annual awards ceremony in May.
“For our students, the fellowship will provide financial support and encouragement to engage in business data science research and work in collaboration with our Tuchman School of Management faculty,” he added. “In this gig economy, the demand is growing exponentially for people who not only understand fundamental business and management principles, but also have the skills necessary to leverage AI [artificial intelligence], machine learning and other advanced cognitive technologies. This is the key to creating value for businesses and improving the experience of customers.”
“This fellowship is a reminder to all of us in the MTSM community of Dean Caudill's vision to prepare next generations for a business world that is getting more and more data driven and technology-based,” noted Oya Tukel, MTSM’s new dean effective July 1. “I extend my deep appreciation for his support and service to the management school and will continue to carry out our mission of becoming a recognized business school with the power of data sciences.”
