New Jersey Institute of Technology has earned national recognition for how it serves students connected to the military, be they active members or veterans.

Back-to-school buzz has returned to campus, and with it has come the latest wave of promising first-year students hailing from NJIT’s home city of Newark.

New Jersey Institute of Technology’s standing in national rankings continues to rise with U.S. News & World Report placing NJIT No. 84 among U.S. universities — improving two places from last year — in the 2025 edition of its Best Colleges list.

The latest ranking extends NJIT’s upward trajectory — climbing 19 spots since 2022 — and supports the findings of other publications that rank U.S. universities, which emphasize value and return on investment.

Student athletes are coming from across the U.S. and around the world to study and compete at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Sophomore computer science major Hari Sah was on the gold medal team at this year’s Project/Problem-Based Learning competition, hosted by National Taipei University of Technology, where students from New Jersey Institute of Technology brandished their skills against peers from around the world.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is launching a new, $10+ million initiative that will significantly advance the university’s strength in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and position NJIT to become a leader in both AI research and application in higher education. This augments already significant existing academic and research activity in AI and related programs. In 2023 alone, NJIT research related to AI totaled nearly $60 million.

Machine vision sensors could work faster and more efficiently if they were designed like biological eyes, according to Associate Professor Dong-Kyun Ko, at New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Electrical and Computer Engineering department.

The 2024 academic year kicked off with a Convocation that had a different spin. With the participation of DJ Ricky Bonds, NJIT’s Jazz Band ‘Elementals,’ Highland Dancers and bagpipers and even a special edition of Family Feud NJIT-style, the university’s incoming class received an upbeat welcome.

Industrial engineering student Bianca Hernandez wrapped up her internship at AriZona Beverage Co., putting forth all the skills and knowledge she has acquired at NJIT. 

“Since being there, it's been a really great experience,” said Hernandez, who minors in safety engineering. “Everyone was very welcoming, and this may seem very rare in terms of internships, but the people that I work with daily, they view me more as a coworker rather than an intern. 

Three prominent members of the New Jersey Institute of Technology community have been elected to the National Academy of Construction (NAC), a prestigious national organization that recognizes distinguished leaders in the field of construction.
