Architecture Studios Present Research and Projects at Super Jury
After final reviews at the end of this semester the advanced Architecture Studios presented their projects at the Super Jury. The goal is to share the research undertaken and knowledge gained through new approaches to design and studio instructors present their students' work to everyone at the college and guest critics. The span of projects presented went from developing and designing with new building codes that address the climate crisis by Chris Gardner as shown above, to projects that took on the future of cities and redesigning with community such as Newark's Gateway district with Roger Smith or the NJIT Gate with Darius Solluhub. Other studios took on questions of socially, culturally and environmentally responsible design through use of materials such as Rethinking Highrise: Timber + City with Ji Young Kim, connecting the human experience of beauty and time while designing within the constraints of an existing site and location, such as Endless Poetics with Maria Hurtado de Mendoza. In the Lima Studio with Georgeen Theodore, students worked with community members and city planning agencies in Lima Peru to bring their expertise to creating and activating public and green spaces for urban dwellers.
Tara Narahara shared a student team project that took us to Hong Kong, and the possibility of a living bridge, designing with the informality of Hong Kong's alleyways, connecting different small businesses and residences within the bridge and bridging between districts of the city.
