Interior Design Program Ranks High in Report From National Magazine
NJIT's Hillier College of Architecture and Design improved in several rankings by Design Intelligence magazine this month. Our interior design program ranked second nationwide for the most hires among 15 similar-sized programs, an impressive improvement from its 14 ranking last year. The magazine also cited interior design coordinator David Brothers as one of the 16 most-admired educators in his field.

NJIT VentureLink Inventors Fortify Weak Links in the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain
The surge in mail-order drug deliveries, amid rising temperatures and climate volatility, presents a growing challenge to the security of the pharmaceutical supply chain. Every time vaccine is subject to excessive heat or cold, for example, its potency may be diminished, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A single exposure to freezing temperatures can destroy a batch entirely.

Samuel Reisgys Earns ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Week
NJIT freshman goalkeeper Samuel Reisgys has been selected ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Week the conference office announced on Monday. The 6-foot-3 goalkeeper picks up his third career Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting a clean sheet on Saturday in the Highlanders 2-0 win over visiting North Florida in ASUN action. Reisgys, from Rimbach, Germany, recorded his fourth career shutout of the season, posting two saves against the Ospreys.

NJIT Shuts Out VMI, 5-0, Rene White Becomes NJIT D1 All-Time Scoring Leader
NJIT redshirt junior Rene White scored a pair of goals and became NJIT's Division I All-Time scoring leader with 28 goals as the Highlanders shutout visiting VMI, 5-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Homecoming Weekend at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. In pregame ceremonies, NJIT recognized the Lubetkin and Simon Families in a re-dedication of Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium, the home for the NJIT men's and women's soccer and men's lacrosse teams.

Stop in any Starbucks or McDonalds and you’ll see the signs by the credit card reader: Google Pay accepted here, Apple Pay accepted, or tap to pay. Visit a vendor at a farmers market and you’ll find many accept credit or debit cards using an attachment on their smartphone from Square or Clover.

Highlanders Take a Trip to the Federal Reserve
As the state of our economy receives greater and greater attention, last week a group of Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM) business students were given the opportunity to leave their classrooms and see things for themselves at the New York Federal Reserve in New York City. Organized by Zhipeng Yan, corporate finance professor and associate dean, and accompanied by Oya I. Tukel, MTSM dean, the trip brought business students to the financial capital of the world, where they enjoyed an inside look at the gold vaults hidden some 80 feet beneath its busy streets.

Two Recent Grants Support Programs and Services for Pre-College Students
NJIT is one of six higher education partners in New Jersey awarded federal funding over the next seven years, from the U.S. Department of Education, for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP). Here in Newark, the university’s Center for Pre-College Programs (CPCP) administers GEAR UP, which provides academic enrichment opportunities to economically disadvantaged middle and high school students with the aim to improve their college attendance and success.

NJIT Promotes Lenny Kaplan to Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics
Lenny Kaplan, who has headed New Jersey Institute of Technology's division of physical education and athletics since August 2000, has been promoted to the new title of associate vice president/director of athletics. Kaplan has been instrumental in guiding the program's growth, first at the NCAA Division II level and, since late 2002, in its successful reclassification to NCAA Division I.

Management School Heads to France for Spring Break Study Abroad
Building on last year’s fruitful trip to Germany, NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM), in collaboration with the university’s Office of Global Initiatives, is again offering a faculty-led study abroad trip during Spring Break — this time to Lyon, France, in March 2020. Students will learn about international marketing principles through visits with French companies, including JP Riviere Winery and Groupe SEB, and lectures at ESDES, the business school of UCLy — Lyon Catholic University.
