The Board of Trustees and President Teik C. Lim jointly announce today that President Lim will retire from NJIT, effective August 3, 2026, to conclude his successful tenure and transition toward a new chapter of professional and personal interests. President Lim has served as NJIT’s ninth president since July 1, 2022, and he shared that his decision to retire from NJIT comes at a natural and positive inflection point for the institution. “This is the right moment for me to step away and for NJIT to begin its next chapter, and I do so with great confidence in what we have built together,” said President Lim. “I am proud to say that I have accomplished everything I set out to do and I am very optimistic about NJIT’s future.”
During President Lim’s tenure as president, the institution launched the 2030 strategic plan, NJIT Makes An Innovation Nexus. “When I joined NJIT in 2022, I was immediately inspired by its momentum, its ambitious vision for the future, and the vast opportunities for growth across the institution. My core priorities during my presidency were firmly guided by our strategic plan and a steadfast commitment to advancing the success of our students, faculty, and staff. I am especially proud to have worked with our faculty and staff in strengthening the university’s reputation for academic excellence and expanding NJIT’s stature as a hub for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, as evidenced by our upward trajectory in university rankings. The progress we have made is the direct result of the university community’s collective collaboration, talent, and strength.”
The Board of Trustees expressed deep appreciation for President Lim’s service and impact on the university. “On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, we extend our sincere gratitude to President Lim for his service and unwavering commitment to NJIT and its mission. We are grateful for all that he has given to this institution and to the students, faculty, and staff he has served so admirably,” said Robert C. Cohen, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
The Board plans to appoint an interim president prior to initiating a national search for the university’s next president and will share additional details in the coming weeks. President Lim will continue to serve in his role until August 3, 2026 and will assist in the transition process to ensure continuity of leadership.
“Serving as president of NJIT has been the honor of a lifetime,” President Lim said. “I want to express my gratitude to the Board of Trustees and the entire NJIT community. I am deeply proud of what we have achieved together and am grateful to the students, faculty, staff, and alumni who make NJIT so special.”
