The NJIT women's soccer team (6-5-6, 1-3-3 AE) defeated Maine (3-7-3, 2-3-2 AE), 2-1, in its final regular season home game on Saturday night at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

How it Happened

NJIT struck first in the third minute when Briana Andreoli scored her ninth goal of the season. The Highlanders allowed just two shots in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

NJIT extended its lead in the second half, as Riley Jones scored her first goal of the season in the 55th minute.

Maine responded with a goal by Victoria Dungey in the 65th minute, assisted by Abbey Thornton. The Black Bears created several chances to tie the game in the second half, but the Highlanders held on for the victory.

Goalkeeper Mojisola Ayodele made three saves, while Lily Maccausand led NJIT with three shots. Ayodele, Jones, Merle HueserMaria NogueiraCaitlin Mahala, and Kennedy Yon played the full 90 minutes. The Highlanders also blocked seven shots.

Maine led NJIT in shots (15-9), corner kicks (5-3), and possession (59%-41%).

The Highlanders will conclude the regular season at UMBC on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
