Career Fair Draws Hundreds of Employers and Thousands of Jobseekers
Friday, March 1, 2019
It was a cold and windy Wednesday, but the winter weather didn’t stop the more than 2,200 students and alumni in search of internships, co-ops and full-time jobs from packing the Wellness and Events Center Feb. 13. There, 212 employers were recruiting for a range of positions — and doling out swag — at the Spring 2019 Career Fair, coordinated by NJIT’s Career Development Services. We spoke with some of the employers, many of them first-timers at NJIT, about the value career fairs hold for their talent pipelines, and how they prepared for the big event. NJIT Overwatch Esports Team Secures Spot in Collegiate National Championship Tournament
Friday, February 22, 2019
College Basketball isn’t the only tournament happening this March. Gamers will have their own March Madness as part of TESPA’s Overwatch Collegiate Championship — and NJIT has made the field. Finishing 11th in TESPA’s regular season rankings with a record of 13-2, the Highlanders have punched their ticket to the tournament. More than 400 colleges and universities take part in TESPA’s Overwatch league, where students test their skills and earn scholarship money. NJIT team captain Nicholas Abadiotakis, a junior computer engineering major, said the Highlanders have ranked as high as #1 in...
NJIT Teams Nab 1st and 2nd Place in Statewide Competition
Monday, February 18, 2019
The purpose is twofold: “tap into the creative and forward-thinking minds of young people, and at the same time, encourage students to take a more active role in understanding and shaping health care.” Indeed, the second annual Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) Health Care Transformation Challenge yielded new apps and devices designed by college students with their peers top of mind. The teams placing first and second in the statewide competition — which this year awarded $10,000 in cash prizes and addressed mental/behavioral health, disease management and...

Friday, February 15, 2019
Almost 100 middle school students from more than 40 schools across New Jersey recently participated in a cyber robotics coding competition held at NJIT. They were finalists in the New Jersey Cyber Robotics Coding Competition, an exciting online event in which students used a cloud-based simulation platform featuring a virtual, 3D animated robot. The competition is the brainchild of the Intelitek STEM and CTE Education Foundation, which partnered with the Department of Education of New Jersey to hold this event. Similar competitions are held in many other states across the country...

Using Artificial Intelligence to Match Candidates to Jobs
Friday, January 25, 2019
Milad Mirghahari came up with his idea the way many entrepreneurs do, by trying to solve a real-world problem he faced daily. The difference in Mirghahari’s case is he was only 15 years old. Mirghahari’s family operated two Subway franchises and in his words — they were failing. The main problem — they could not find good talent. They lacked ambitious, committed employees who wanted to succeed. After peppering his mom with questions long enough, she told him, “you think you can fix it — do it." He did. He scoured through resumes, reached out to other Subway franchisees, gave...
