Thursday, March 14, 2019
U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 rankings for the nation’s top graduate schools are in, and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has been ranked No. 89 for its graduate degree program in engineering — marking the third consecutive year that the university has been listed among the Top 100. This year, NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering is also celebrating its 100th anniversary of public service through engineering. Fadi P. Deek, NJIT provost and senior executive vice president, said, “Many factors played a role in NJIT’s top ranking for graduate engineering programs. Apart from...
Centennial Celebrations: Newark College of Engineering Inducts 11 into its Hall of Fame
Tuesday, March 12, 2019
A poet, a general and a judge, all engineers by training with diverse, illustrious careers to follow, were among the 11 Newark College of Engineering (NCE) graduates recently inducted into the NCE 100, the alumni hall of fame established this year as part of the College’s celebration of its centennial. “The range of what our graduates have done is very wide,” noted NCE Dean Moshe Kam, at a ceremony in Eberhardt Hall, the campus’s oldest building, that touched on NCE’s origins in the industrial age and the confident role its graduates currently play in shaping the new, technologically...

Daniel Young, a junior studying chemical engineering, has been declared Intern of the Year by Career Development Services (CDS) at NJIT. CDS held its second annual Interns of NJIT contest this past fall and selected Young in January. In addition to the title, he has received a $500 cash prize that will go toward his tuition. “Our contest selection committee unanimously chose Daniel as the winner of the contest based on the enthusiasm he showed in his testimonial and an exceptional letter of recommendation from his supervisor at L’Oréal, who described him as ‘a true team player who...

Career Fair Draws Hundreds of Employers and Thousands of Jobseekers
Friday, March 1, 2019
It was a cold and windy Wednesday, but the winter weather didn’t stop the more than 2,200 students and alumni in search of internships, co-ops and full-time jobs from packing the Wellness and Events Center Feb. 13. There, 212 employers were recruiting for a range of positions — and doling out swag — at the Spring 2019 Career Fair, coordinated by NJIT’s Career Development Services. We spoke with some of the employers, many of them first-timers at NJIT, about the value career fairs hold for their talent pipelines, and how they prepared for the big event. First-Gen College Student Makes His Mark
Monday, February 25, 2019
Nick Fuentes-Zuluaga was just 2 years old when he and his parents left their home in Bogota, Colombia, and migrated to the United States. They settled in Rockaway, N.J., with the aid of his aunt in nearby Parsippany and began a new life, far from the mounting violence triggered by their native country’s illegal drug trade. Assimilating into the American culture and learning the English language proved difficult, but they persevered. Fuentes-Zuluaga’s father, employed by an architectural firm in Colombia, and his mother, who was in banking, took hourly-wage jobs to support the family, which...

The competition’s student-teams — representing each of the college’s departments — were selected to present their research based on standout first-year academic performances and projects that they conceived of during their Fundamentals of Engineering Design 101 (FED 101) courses, taken this past Fall 2018 semester. At the event, before an audience of faculty,...
