The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT corporation that applies the intellectual and technological resources of the state’s science and technology university to challenges identified by industry partners, has announced the appointment of Todd Tangert as director and associate head of NJII’s Defense and Homeland Security Innovation Laboratory (iLab). In this role, Tangert will serve to enhance and expand the role of the iLab by working with companies and government agencies to develop, design and deploy vetted solutions for field applications.

Before assuming his new role, Tangert served in a variety of positions with Lockheed Martin Corp.  He spent his career working on various aspects of complex systems (design, test, integration and fielding) and served in numerous leadership roles. Tangert ran several engineering organizations, led numerous projects and had strategic responsibilities in R&D and talent development.

“We are delighted to have Todd join our NJII team where he will be a major contributor to our Defense and Homeland Security iLab. The challenges facing New Jersey and the country are complex and interconnected and need to be considered in the totality of a single system rather than in isolated domains. NJII, by drawing on Todd’s vast experience in DoD systems and by serving as an innovation platform for leveraging public-private partnerships, can play a pivotal role in creating that single system. We have the physical, human and intellectual resources to embrace high-technology tools to empower next-generation solutions to enduring homeland defense and security problems,” said Donald Sebastian, president of NJII.

Tangert received a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology.
