Senior captain George Svensson continued his impressive start to his final season as a Highlander, winning his flight championship as the NJIT men's tennis team wrapped up action at The Star Group Invitational, which was hosted by Binghamton this weekend.
Svensson defeated his opponent from Buffalo 6-2, 6-2 to cap a 4-0 weekend. The Stockholm, Sweden, native won two matches Friday and one each on Saturday and Sunday to win the 'Black Flight' at the six-team tournament.
"Credit goes to George for leading the way this weekend," said head coach Ira Miller.
In addition to Svensson, four other Highlanders won singles matches on Sunday. Tin Dizdarevic, Aleksa Petrovic, Adrian Tudor, and Daniel Sabogal joined their senior captain in the win column.
"Those four guys also played well," added Miller. "It was our best singles play of the tournament.:
NJIT continues its fall season in mid-October when it travels to Annapolis, MD, for the Navy Blue Invite.
