Norma Clayton, NJIT Alumna and Trustee, Elected to Goodyear Board of Directors
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced the election of Norma Clayton ’81, co-vice chair of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Board of Trustees, to its Board of Directors, effective Nov. 28, 2022.
"We are very pleased to welcome Norma Clayton to Goodyear's Board of Directors," said Chairman, CEO and president Richard J. Kramer. "Norma's global leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, technology, innovation and human resources will be invaluable to Goodyear and its shareholders as we build our business and fulfill our role of enabling mobility in a fast-evolving industry."
For more than 20 years, Clayton has served in various leadership capacities across engineering, operations, optimization, manufacturing, product safety and more. Most recently at Boeing, she was the vice president for Learning, Training and Development. Clayton was the first African American and woman to hold a senior manufacturing position at Boeing. She has held leadership roles throughout her career at Fortune 500 companies, including Lockheed Martin, General Electric, RCA and General Motors.
Earlier this year, Clayton was elected to the National Academy of Engineers, which is among the highest professional distinctions received by an engineer. She was recognized for leadership in transforming manufacturing processes and supply chain management, and for innovative training programs for commercial aerospace industries.
The election to Goodyear’s Board adds to her impressive list of organizations and industries she continues to be involved in and advocate for. She holds board positions with the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, Leadership America, the American Society of Industrial Engineers, and the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources. In addition, Clayton is on the Board of Directors of Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer in the U.S., and is chairwoman of the board of trustees at Tuskegee University.
Clayton, a graduate of NJIT’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), has given generously to the university through her volunteer leadership and her philanthropic support of EOP, NJIT’s general scholarship fund, and the Jacqueline V. Brown Memorial Scholarship, which she established in honor of her mother, a champion of education. Most recently, Norma created an endowment for the university’s tutoring and academic support services center, which is now known as the Norma J. Clayton '81 Learning Center.
“Norma’s election to the Goodyear Board of Trustees is a tremendous point of pride for NJIT,” said President Teik C. Lim. “Her illustrious career and many accomplishments are inspirational, outshined only by her selfless generosity and advocacy on behalf of students at NJIT and
beyond. We are fortunate to count Norma among our most dedicated alumni leaders.”
