The NJIT men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2021 campaign with strong showings at the annual Fordham Fiasco meet Saturday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Highlander men finished in the top five, collectively earning fourth place (102 pts) while the women just missed out on the same fate by placing sixth (174 pts) .
Fifth year Brian McGlew paced the men's team in the 8K with a top-20 overall finish (18th; 28:10.3; 5:40.1 average mile) and junior Laila Hill-Glover led the Highlander women in the 5K with a 21st place run of 21:07.9 (6:47.7 average mile).
The meet was the first for the Highlander programs under new cross country/track and field head coach Jason Munsch.
NEXT UP The Highlanders will run again next Saturday, Sept. 18 as both teams take part in the America East Pre-Conference meet on the campus of the University of New Hampshire.
