The NJIT men's volleyball team swept a two-match EIVA Conference men's volleyball series this weekend at Charleston (WV) with a 3-1 victory over the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon.
With the win, NJIT has won the last five out of six matches, moved to 5-1 in the EIVA and have won three consecutive matches, improving to 5-3 overall. The Golden Eagles stand at 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the EIVA.
NJIT, which earned an NVA/AVCA Division I-II top-15 ranking, marking the first time in program history, had three Highlanders reached double-figure kills in the Highlanders victory paced by sophomore opposite with a match-best Julian Meissner (15), Alvaro Gimeno (12) and Luca Berger (12).
Berger finished with a .786 hitting percentage, including two service aces and two total blocks (one solo, one assist). Meissner combined for a .444 hitting percentage while Gimeno finished with a .381 clip.
Setter Griffin Fieseler registered a career-best 44 assists to along with two aces while libero Joe Kennedy led NJIT defensively with seven digs.
Charleston (WV) Maarten Bartels paced the Golden Eagles with 10 kills while setter Diego Villafane recorded 30 assists.
NJIT will be back in action on Thursday and Friday when the Highlanders host Saint Francis U inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. First spike is set for 7 p.m.
